I'm using 8208xbr for my loading of 223/556. I'm using 25.5gr under 55gr fmj and using 23.0gr under 75gr hornandy with cannulure. LC brass. No pressure signs. At 300yds 1.9" groupings.
18" 1/8 twist Wilde chamber BA barrel.

Ditto. I use TAC for all of my 5.56 loads which are primarily 69 and 77 gr projectiles. for my m12 clone 18" match grade bbl From White Oak.
I dont think 1:8 is going to stabilize a projectile over 69 grain for long distance shooting.

1:8 twist is fine for the 75/77gr 5.56 bullets.iRasman wrote:tfbit wrote:I'm liking Ramshot TAC for my 77gr MK262 clone load. It shoots 0.75 MOA out of my DD 1/7 twist 16" barrels.

TAC or A2460 are the velocity champs, but Benchmark gives me much better accuracy although it does sacrifice 100-150 fps. 1/2 moa vs ~2 moa
Re: Hand Loading 223 powder question
I don't know about out of a 16" but in my Stag 6h which is a 1/8 24" barrel I get 3100fps with 69g Sierras and Tac along with some very tight groups.iRasman wrote:tfbit wrote:I'm liking Ramshot TAC for my 77gr MK262 clone load. It shoots 0.75 MOA out of my DD 1/7 twist 16" barrels.

Re: Hand Loading 223 powder question
Another vote for H335. The only load I've ever worked up for the 5.56/.223 was for a a mini-14 for my daughter to use as a first hunting rifle. It was a basic 55gr soft point. 25.3 gr of H335 was good for 3150 fps or so. I didn't have any AR's at the time but had 3 of those Mini 14's. We focused on the shorty (factory LE short barrel...16" intead of 18") that she was going to use and got that load to group within 1.5" for 5 shots...and that was with my daughter shooting it and she was only 14 years old at the time! She was good with that rifle and took quite a few deer and antelope with it until she finally grew up enough to use a more correct rifle for hunting. They also worked great in the other 2 mini 14's that I had, so we loaded up 1000 of them to use for bunny blasting and the occasional little kid big game rifle.
When I finally sold the mini 14's and got into AR's, I found out that those same loads were really accurate in all my AR's that I bought also, but were especially accurate in a factory 14.5" DD upper (RIS II FSP) that I bought.
That same daughter is now 20 years old and just married and has her own 18" .223 Wylde AR15. When she was up to visit last time I sent 300 rounds home with her of that same 1000 round batch! And I still have a few hundred left over for myself!
Hope this helps.

But my best loads that are consistent in different temperatures and conditions while still giving good velocities without using max loads is RL15 and the Hornady 75gr bthp. I have used these loads out to 1k yards from a 18" barrel with 50% hits on a steel ipsc torso(has to be very low wind). And can achieve 100% hits out to 600 yards once I get on target. The 75gr is alot cheaper then the SMK offerings as well.
My 5.56 16" barrel likes Varget and CFE223 as well.
Re: Hand Loading 223 powder question
For the weights your talking about i use either 8208XBR or Ramshot TAC. I primarily use TAC with anything 62 grain and heavier, until i reach the 77 grain. With that i have used TAC and Varget. There is a large velocity difference between the 2 with heavier projectiles in my 8 twist, but the accuracy with 75 Hornady BTHP is much better in my rifle when using Varget.
My social occasion projectile is a 62 grain bonded spire point. So for that i use TAC.

Re: Hand Loading 223 powder question
My AR with a 18' 1 in 8 barrel in 223 Wylde likes 22.5gr of RL-15 with a Remington 7 1/2 primer and a 2.250 COL with the Hornady 75gr BTHP. It shoots MOA and under consistently at 100 yards. Nothing else I have tried has worked as well, and I have tried a lot of different powder bullet combinations with way less than stellar results. This combination worked the best so far. Might not work as well in yours, but it worked in mine. Good luck and good shooting.

I was thinking the same thing. That 1:8 barrel may not stabilize a 77gr bullet.golfindia wrote:WC844 or H335. If accuracy rather than velocity is the goal, IMR4198.
To each their own, but I wouldn't use anything heavier than 68g in a 1:8 223.
Consider a 25-45 sharps barrel.
