I’d find something else for a plinking load. Varget is awesome, but I agree it seems a waste for plinking ammo. Never ran it through a powder thrower, but my Hornady dispenser seems to dislike it (as it does all stick powders). I used to use 3031 for .223 back when Varget was scarce, but at this point, it’s easier and cheaper to just buy cheap .223 since I don’t have the stuff to run it on my progressive and it’s in plentiful stock everywhere.

I do use it now for 308 and 7mm-08 and love it, but that’s all I’ll use it for in case there’s another panic buy and it disappears again, I don’t have much of it. Since it’s one of their “extreme” powders it’s less sensitive to temperature which is nice. It also usually has good ES and SD’s, which is why so many like it for precision.
