Anyone using the NOE 311-115-RN in their 300Blk?

Post by meadmkr »

Before I add yet another NOE mold to the collection I was wondering if anyone was using the NOE 311-115-RN for lighter weight plinking and other general rounds in the 300? Its listed as a 30carbine round but since so many loads for the BO are in the 110-120 range I want to be able to cast for 'em. These will likely be powder coated and run at the lower-middle end of supers.

I've searched here, NOE and online but haven't found any hits so I'm wondering if its profile isn't suitable for the round. I have several molds ranging from 149 to 198 but wanted something on the lighter end that I could also use in the 7.62x51

Well, took the plunge and ordered the mold. Worse comes to worse it can be used in my .308 and a few family 30-30s....

TIA,

Most of the attempts i've seen at using 30 carbine bullets in 300blk end up in feeding problems due to the profile, but if you open up the feed ramps as others have done you could make it work.

I have not used this bullet, but have used similar-Lyman 311008 [115g], Lyman 311410 [130g], and Zombie 13- [123g].
The main problems are the carbine bullets are too short to feed reliably, and have to jump too far to engage the rifling, giving poor accuracy.
I hope you have ordered the plain base version.
If you PC you will not need a gas check and the gas check will make it hard to to seat the bullet out far enough.
For example: The zombie 13- 123g will work reasonably well [fired in a RARR] if the bullet is only seated to a depth of about 0.060" in the neck of the case and crimped.

P.S. Let us know how this bullet turns out. Every rifle is different!

If it's in an AR or other gas-operated action, and for full power supersonic loads, a gas check is still needed for good accuracy. Powder coating doesn't take the place of a gas check in that situation.

Sadly not yet... I've got a few cast & coated but due to being swamped at work and projects around the house & the cabin haven't had the time. Right now my reloading bench is taken over with other projects for Halloween & Christmas.

I've got vacation coming up in a few weeks iand hope to get some major reloading & casting time in with the weather turning a bit cooler.

SBD - this will be on the lower-end of the power scale as they are primarily for pinking and ringing steel. If they don't work out for my 300 then they will be relegated to the .308 for "fun rounds".
