Need a 150-160 grain spitzer mould other than the LEE
I have the LEE 312-155-2R. It is great. But I am wanting a more durable mould that throws a similar bullet because my experience with LEE is that they are basically disposable. Is anyone making a high quality mould of similar bullet design from say iron or brass?

You are correct. I just ordered the NOE 314-150-SP in the GC version. Can't wait to drop some boolits from it.plant.one wrote:i'm sure you can find something over at NOE that will suite your needs.

What sizing die do you use for the lee 312-155-2R? I currently have the .308.
Re: Need a 150-160 grain spitzer mould other than the LEE
I usually use .311" in 30cal whether it be 300BLK, 308, 30-06, or even 30-30. Some necks and throats are tighter, so may require smaller diameter, but you want to seal the throat to prevent blowby.
As for the Lee moulds, the newer style with pin and socket alignment are better than their predecessors. That said, I've cast may thousands of bullets from the old style moulds and they still work fine. The trick to keep them working is to keep them lubricated to prevent galling. Synthetic 2 cycle oil used sparingly on the pins/sockets, and under the sprue plate works wonders.
I have the C312-155-2R in 6 cavity, but didn't care for the cam operated, aluminum sprue cutter. Mine wears a custom steel sprue cutter.

.308 is generally too small, you want at least .001" larger than bore diameter in most cases. Good news though - your Lee die needs to be polished inside anyway (they are almost always too rough), so you can open it up to .309-.310" with polishing. Make sure to polish the taper mostly though; sizing will be easier and the punch will last longer.birchworks wrote:What sizing die do you use for the lee 312-155-2R? I currently have the .308.
I use a split steel dowel with emery cloth wrapped around it, in a cordless drill. A 3/16" dowel is about right for this job, use a hacksaw to split the first 1" to 1.5" of one end.

Has anyone considered trying the NOE Hi Tek mould? Here is the name HTC309-153-SP 5 cavity PB.
It is a 153 grain spitzer point.
I am seriously considering using this for supersonic loads. It will need to be powder coated.

In a bolt gun, that should be a great bullet for supersonic loads when powder coated.gabe1519 wrote:Has anyone considered trying the NOE Hi Tek mould? Here is the name HTC309-153-SP 5 cavity PB.

In an AR15 for supers, in my experience you really need a gas checked bullet even with powder coating. Minor gas cutting of the base as it passes the gas port is enough to ruin accuracy, and accumulate lead in the bolt carrier. YMMV of course.
