New /old mold

Post by cwlongshot »

Took delivery of another LEE 6cav 312-1552R today.

I bought a 2 cav and then borrowed a 6 cav. Its well worn but works OK. Returned it and looked for the 2cav. Apparently I lent it & its not around. So I grabbed one off Titan.

Mold is another great mold!! Lee is really stepping up!! This is my fourth 6cav lee I have bought in last four months. Thats been near perfect. Spure plate is dead flat zero burrs. Four in a row!
I reamed 4 of the 6 cavs to eliminate the GC. Then de-burred & cleaned the mold then heat cycled it. Lastly mounted handles awaiting next casting session.

Any of you dipshits interested in casting better listen to this guy. He knows a thing or five. Or ten.

Buddy I'm hoping to lead them here, not sure about the new hit and gone crowd. Not the community it used to be. Shame.

I’ve always preferred the Lee sprue cutting lever to beating open the plate on other large capacity molds.

What’s your load? I was using RL7, but recently found a jug of IMR 4227 at a decent price. I’ve loaded a work up from 14.0 to 16.0 grains, but still haven’t had a nice day to hit the range.

Hello Ima!

4227 and 1680 are my go to powders for the 150g

In my Bolt 3031 has been my most accurate! But it isnt gassy enough for the M$R.

How did you go about reaming out the gas check section of the mold? I have a few I'd like to do that to...

Hello Tony,

I used a proper sized brand new drill and my drill press as a fixture but turned by hand. This was an aluminum mold. Utmost in care its dead flat level and your perfectly aligned.
