MP Molds 300 BO 230 grain Hollow Point Group Buy active...

Post by bluejay75 »

Greetings fellow 300 Black Casters,

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthr ... vity-Solid

This is going to be a winner. Medium to soft alloy (range scrap) and hollow pointed it should expand at 8-1000 fps.

Its on the link. I have tried to figure out how to post pics here...will try to get one up later.

This is a cramer hollow point mold. So its made shallow enough to expand throughout the reasonable velovity range without falling apart. That said, I think youre going to have to run 10-12 BHN (Air cooled range scrap or wheelweight 50:50) to get this to expand fully at subsonic.

I think a lot of people are using powder coeted bullet designs now.
Especially in AR's suppressed.
For cast hollow point bullets the wedge nose expands better than the nose shape shown for the GB molds.
That design tends to cave in instead of expanding outwards sometimes.
I have a wedge shaped 235 bullet and it expands easily and will blow through several milk jugs and slit them wide open with at least a half inch exit.
I drill the HP's since Accurate molds doesn't offer a HP mold.
Not trying to derail the group buy but if another GB with a wedge shape HP and powder coat compatible comes out it would perform very well for hunting and accuracy if loaded right.
However wedge designs like feed ramps designed for 300BLK and not 223.
223 ramps can be altered with a dremel easily though.
I get half inch groups at 50 yards with my 16 inch DCA upper.

The wedge as a solid does not track straight through ballistics gel or flesh. Your design IS GOING TO YAW AND/ OR TUMBLE if it doesnt expand. This has enough meplat to hollow point and enough of a taper to feed. This was prototyped on a lathe and run for function by the designer...Hes an old school engineer that has 20-30 original designs that are copied by almost all of the major mold makers. So I trust his judgement.

Mihec molds are a work of art.His hp molds are a better design than the Noe hp.
The hornady sub X works very well and is what I've been leaning to lately.
I have the Noe mold and it's very accurate.
I drilled out the lube grooves on it.
The wasp waist is interesting and should work and be just as good.

Bump in case anyone missed it. The buy should close soon.

Personally I've been shooting the NOE HP for a while and have it shooting well with good expansion, but find the pin setup to be a PITA so I'm giving this one a try. No idea how this new design will function, but it's supposed to feed better in AR's and stack better in the mag. Also available without lube grooves for powder coating.

HP Molds are in! They are pretty.

Only took 2 years.
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst, boing or explode, it's not worth shooting.

Meh. This is a high quality mold, and casting with it is nice. But the pin is about half the diameter of the NOE and not as deep.
This is ~980 fps into Clear Ballistics gel. Max expansion is just under 1/2".
I won't be hunting with it. That's a bummer given the cost and the wait.
