Height of the picatinny gas block?

Post by SyN »

I am looking into buying a set of BUIS for my new MP15 300 BLK.

Sales people have told me I need a {Gas Block} front sight for this rifle. Due to the height of the gas block.

I leveled the rifle and put a level across the top receiver rail to the picatinny gas block.

The level is showing a very Level Plain!

I am very confused.

I know its a bad idea to place a polymer front site on the gas block due to the heat.

My question is-->Though I am seeing a Level Plain from the top receiver to the picatinny gas block! Do I still need a special front sight made to be installed on the gas block?

Thanks

No, if the gas block rail is the same height from the bore as the receiver rail, you do not need "special" sights. DO NOT put polymer sights on a railed gas block.

Thanks 20X11 for your reply!

I have an e-mail into S&W. Asking them about this set up on these MP15 300 BLK.
It might be 3 months before I get a reply back.

I am only curious what others who own this rifle have used for back up sights?

Thanks again.

I have this rifle. I had Magpul BUIS on. I was able to sight them in, but decided to switch to a scope.

Vent: Is your gas block the same height as your receiver rail?

I triple checked mine and man that bubble is right in the middle!

I just want a set of BUIS to use until I decide on an Optic!

I will have to save for a while. A co worker installed a Vortex Viper on his new build and It is awesome.

Gas block was the same height. I had the front sight mounted on it and used it awhile, never had any melting issues, but then again, I wasnt playing Rambo with it. I used the Magpuls until I got the Nikon P300.

I didn't think I was seeing things!

Thank You for sharing that bit of information with me.

Now time to move forward!

I will probably do the same! After an optic is aquired-->The BUIS will come off.

Who knows!

Some people on here will say dont put the plastic sights on the block, but I think if you keep your fire under control, you wont have any problems. I didnt. If you plan on emptying several beta drums at once, dont mount on the block.

I agree 100%.

As expensive as ammo is! I can't see myself rattling off more then 3 at a time.

Though future plans are alot of wild pig hunting.

This is my first AR15. So alot of lessons to be learned.

Keeping it light and simple.

I also have a Spikes empty lower to start on after this one is done- ->For my Son!

Oh heck..3-5 rounds at a time you wont have any issues with polymer sights. But, you always have to advise for guys that want to do mag dumps.
