New to the 300 blk

Post by Seh86 »

I'm new to the 300 blk. And it wasn't cycling properly with subs and and find any supers in my town and not a fan of buying ammo online. So after hours of research I learned that I could have my gas port drilled to shoot subs without a suppressor.

My question is, is having it drilled to a .120 enough or should I just go with the max at .125? Really wasn't wanting to go with the max, but will if I have to.

Post some info about your current barrel, including overall length, gas tube length (pistol, carbine, rifle), gas port size, your BCG (Full or Semi), buffer, buffer spring. There are many ways to address the issue, drilling a bigger port is only one of them.

Most walmarts I've been to have remmington ammo in stock... did you try there?

What barrel length? What gas system length? Not all setups will run subs with no can.

I would focus on gettin the right ammo before drilling out gas ports...buying online isn't that bad. And besides, buying subs is usually way more expensive than buying supers.

Sith beat me to it lol.

And to prove his point, my 9.5" SBR wont hold open on last round with subs with a full auto BCG, but will with a standard AR15 BCG (it's slightly lighter). There are a lot of factors that come into play when running subs, especially with no can.

Another thing to consider. Unless you have a suppressor, there isn't much use in going sub-sonic. The major benefit of subs is loosing the super-sonic crack that is not present with subs as is present in supers. Without a can you will still get a significant bang. As a rough rule, there is about twice the powder, even in a sub 300 BO than in a typical 9 mm.

Have you considered the application of proper lubrication?

120 is enough to cycle supers and subs in a 16" barrel.
I measured mine with the correct drop in pin and that is what my port is on my AAC barrel at least.

Mine is .75 and is in a pistol gas SBR. I do not have a adjustable gas block. Shoot my reloads. Only thing I change out is buffer and spring

This is a very informative article to help you decide what size to go.
