I got a Brakeout 2.0 now

Post by A-Game »

So I was working on my Mosin project today with a friend and I saw he had a Brakeout 2.0 in his muzzle device inventory. We got to talking and being the good nice guy that he is he offered to trade me for my 51t flash hider. I didn't hesitate and accepted. He even offered to trade back if I didn't like it.

I have been wanting to upgrade to a muzzle brake or a comp for a while.

It's a good thing I waited...

Ok guys, I meaning (my friend who is a master gunsmith) removed my flash hider tonight with the flash hider removal tool, a ratchet, and a breaker bar.

He mentioned before we started that this was the test of a quality barrel.

He put the upper in a vice block and cranked on it until....CRACK...

The loud crack is the rocksett coming loose.

The barrel will flex (they will if they are heat treated correctly)

You gotta put your big boy pants because rocksett feels like a few hundred (or more) pounds of torque.

So when I put the new muzzle device on we didn't use rocksett.

I can't wait to shoot it this weekend. I'll take some video and write up my impressions.

The mosin project is pretty fantastic for a mosin too

arent you supposed to soak rocksett in water overnight before doing the removal to ease the process?

He had the flash hider off so fast that there was no need to soak it in water.

He owns 5 AAC Silencers and he has made his own before then so he has taken AAC flash hiders on and off as well several times. Not to mention the hundreds of muzzle devices he has taken off over the last 20 years.

I took several photos yesterday of the Mosin on the lathe and before and after parkerizing

I will be taking some more now that it is painted and I'll get some before and after shots of the stock.

Unfortunately it's going to take about a week to get my bolt back from the guy who is going to convert it to a bent bolt and he wants the whole gun because I want him to do some work on the bolt to cycle smooth. His prices are very good. Otherwise if I had everything I could finish the project today.

I will have to do a photobucket or facepalm account to host the pics.
