10.5 blackout barrel change out

Post by CyberVet65 »

I am going to take the 16 inch off and install a 10.5 barrel.
What determines the length of the gas tube? I see some barrels with pistol tubes and some with carbine tubes. Is it just where the gas hole is located?
Since I run suppressed is one type better than the other?
Is the melonite type of barrel material that the barrel is made from or is it like a 'coating'? What is the purpose of melonite?
This is a 'plinker'. Not for moa at 200 yds. Looking for around 100 yds to band a gong.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, and with a 10.5" barrel it will be pistol gas.
Melonite is neither the material or a coating. It's molten salt bath ferritic nitrocarburizing. In a nutshell it's a chemical process that makes the surface of the steel harder, but unlike a coating it does not change dimensions.
