Sadly, I have an Avid license that's too old to work with 64 bit OS's and I don't have the $600 to update/upgrade it to the current MediaComposer. After using movie maker, I want my damn pro timeline, multiple tracks/streams, and real audio tools back, damn it!
I got an action cam for Christmas but haven't made any mounts for it yet, so I figured I'd see how a trail cemera did, then fucked up the framing on the three other stumps I tried recording.

Is there anything out there that's better than MM without buying into Adobe or Sony's cheaper software?
Open source video editing software?

This looks interesting: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... nciresolve
I left my laptop up North, so I'm downloading it to my phone for future installation (I hope) when I'm back up there.

...if you are using a newer Microsoft OS (Win7 thru Win10), you can try installing your Avid s/w and have it run in "Compatibility Mode" which will emulate an older version of MS Win OS?Jim Timber wrote:Sadly, I have an Avid license that's too old to work with 64 bit OS's and I don't have the $600 to update/upgrade it to the current MediaComposer. Re: Open source video editing software?
I tried that and it wouldn't open on my Win 7 laptop (cheapest HP made). Service pack 2 or 3 on Win XP Pro was causing hell for about 6 months back in '04, and they required a pretty robust laptop to get it to run DV25 native. I don't need any new features or anything, but the codecs in use now aren't compatible with the old software (why I'm not just using my old workstation). In a perfect world I could run my Sony A77 and iON air pro in native HD and then down-rez for smoother web use. If I can do it on the laptop, great. If not, so be it. I'd just like to work on it at the cabin at night instead of shooting it all, to then have to come home to start cutting it later.
I'm just messing around with the stump grinder and other tractor footage, but would like to do some promotional stuff for the business and not have it look like I spliced it from VHS.

Re: Open source video editing software?
Have you considered trying out some free video editing software to see if it can meet your needs? There are some great options that don't cost a thing, like the ones on this page: https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/ ... iners.html. And if you decide to go for a paid option in the future, maybe there are some more affordable ones out there that can still give you the pro features you're looking for. Good luck with your video projects!
