Wish my kids play dates ended like that. Daddy would be having one next. Lol

Edit. As long as mom was single.

I'd just bet that those kids would not be doing that if they understood what it was they were playing with.

wow. That could equally apply to firearms.

'bet the sponsor of that video never thought of that . . . . or thought the public might be smart enough to realize it.

Huuuuuummmm. Makes it pretty easy to figure out at least one distinct characteristic of the intended audience huh.

My kid's been following firearm safety rules since he was 4.5 years old. I guarantee you he would've never picked up a gun and played with it if left un-supervised.

The one on the left looks like she could be fun.

Well, not sure you can ever really know. I don't think mine would either, but what if their friends were over? There are TV shows with hidden cameras and lots of kids do play with them when their parents said they would never.

I would not be starting fires in the woods when I was a kid either, but some neighborhood kids came over to my house and did just that when I was a kid. The firetrucks came, and even though I was there trying to stop the other kids, I could not control them.

Kids are kids because they don't have solid judgement.

This PSA just says to lock up your guns, not to ask a friend if they have a gun and then don't let your kid visit. Fine. I would never have unlocked guns at home, even if there were no kids in the house.

Supervision is key; I always taught my kids about guns so I was confident in the fact that they would not play with my weapons. When their friends would play at our house, I would make sure they did not enter my room where I had my guns ( pre safe). Children should always be supervised, inside or out because you never know what they can get into otherwise. And of course there are way too many whackos out there.

I dont have a problem with this "commercial", as I dont see it espousing gun control...or "toy" control for that matter. Maybe she needs a drawer in the safe too

My kids can't be outside at our house with a lake without being supervised. Or not at the pool, or tub. But otherwise, they can play in another room of the house unsupervised, even with friends over. But not if an unlocked and loaded gun was in the house. A gun safe seems cheaper to me than 100% supervision.

I have a relative though who always left loaded hunting rifles all over his house while his kids grew up, and said that he just taught gun safety. You have to teach gun safety, but I don't buy it as an alternative to locking guns. Kids make mistakes and take risks.

We don't have guns all over, and most remain in the safe locked up or not anywhere any other people would be without an escort to begin with. But I have left unloaded weapons unattended in plain sight (no ammo for them in the house) as a test and also just because I wasn't worried about it at times in the past. My kid walked right past a Saiga 12 without batting an eye. He's used to them, and they're not attractive unless he can shoot them (which he knows happens up North when it's appropriate). It's exactly the outcome you get when they're exposed to guns from an early age. They're respected as is a hot stove, and still enjoyable like a dirt bike, but otherwise they're just another object.

There's never unsupervised kids in my house other than my own, and he's just now reaching the age/maturity to be left alone for short periods. I'm more concerned with a kid getting eaten by the lathe than anyone getting accidentally shot.

I only had/have my HD guns loaded, and not all over the house. Though my kids also played in most of the house mostly unsupervised, I or the wife would pop in on them now and then when they were little. But like I said, they were never allowed in my room unsupervised.

My youngest is now over 25 so they grew up in better times, or at least , less media coverage of events. They also spent 4 years in Japan, where it was much safer for kids. Today, I would be twice as vigilant as I was back then.

i grew up in a house with loaded and or guns not kept in safes. i dont think we got a safe until sometime in the late 80s. we were taught at very young ages not to mess with them. like jim - they were just part of being there and we were only allowed to handle them when supervised. otherwise they might be a 2x4 sitting there because we knew if we messed with them when we were supposed to we wouldn't get to use them when we normally would be ALLOWED to. ever. lol

by the time we were ~10 they knew they could trust us enough to turn us loose with the 22's and a brick of ammo and keep us occupied for at least an hour LOL

but i cannot stress enough that we were ingrained to respect them as potentially dangerous when used improperly and shown just how dangerous they were with things like water jugs and melons.
