I'd do a 308 just based off ammo availability. It's really nice to be able to pop in at almost any shop and pick up 308 of some sort. You also aren't stuck with proprietary bolts or any other weird parts.
I really like the 6.5 bullet, but feel more comfortable with .30 cal for hunting. That and with the 308 I can get away with a shorter barrel. I love my Mk216 I just got in 308. Absolutely amazing rifle to shoot.

Yeah, based on what Desert said, I'd have to concur.

If you are into reloading, adding a .308 to your collection gives you bullet compatability with your blackout.....if you add a .308 and a 5.56, you would achive reloading nirvana.

Do you live in Arizona by some small chance?rockrivershooter wrote:I don't reload anything
If so I'd happily meet up with you if you wanted to try my Mk216 to see if a 308 AR is something you really want to get into.
All I ask is buy your own ammo, 308 got expensive since the last time I bought it in Bulk. I'm bummed all the good surplus from years ago is gone.

Well that certainly won't work out easy... Oh well.
Re: 6.5 Grendel or 308?
I brought my Grendel to a DMR class, and I think it acquitted itself quite nicely at 600 yards. And my shoulder really appreciated the substantially lower recoil after 400 rounds.
That said, I see no problem with an AR-10 as your next rifle. (Personally, I'd get a .260 Rem, but that's because I really like the 6.5mm bullet.

A 260 Remington ar10 would be awesome and is high on my want list. I just wish there was a better selection of good factory ammo for it. It seems like a reloaders cartridge to me still.
