Post by POG1986 »

Hey,

I am also am putting in what the guy that built my brothers AR said. It sounds off, so please let me know if I am wrong or right about what he said. So without further reading her she is:

This is what my brothers AR builder said to my laundry list above:

Jim looks like an interesting rifle. - you've pulled out all the stops with this one! Is this for you? You know it's considered an SBR with the shoulder stock and therefore will require a tax stamp.
My concern about building it myself is you've got a short barrel and gas system, a carbine length buffer, and a left side charging handle - all very non-standard stuff. I would be concerned about my ability to get the gas system tuned right. Also left side charging receivers normally require some gunsmithing on the bolt to get them to feed correctly. I assumed you picked 300 Blackout and the short barrel because you're contemplating putting a suppressor on it at some point?

Well, there it is laid out and open. I am an Ambi shooter and I am tired of brass flying into this beautiful old scruffy cranky face of mine. I am only thinking about my non-existent modeling career that has yet to take off. Yes I would love feedback, but genuine and not a its good but do it this way type of feedback-remember its my boomstick so there.

Again thanks for your feedback.

Send It Loud and Pround,
The new guy

My thoughts would be 16" barrel means it is NOT an SBR and doesn't require a stamp. Not sure why the 'ar builder' said it was. You have selected a commercial sized stock and a mil spec buffer tube - they should both be either commercial or mil spec. If it were me, I would use a H2 buffer and perhaps an adjustable gas block. May not be necessary, but could be helpful in tuning.

cdakers nailed it with the buffer

pistol gas = h2 buffer
carbine gas = carbine buffer

both use standard spring.

Okay, so swap out the buffer system with these puppies (see below). I am still getting pushback from my brothers builder which makes me believe that he is unwilling to take on the build and now I need to find me a person in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Any recommendations?

Using a 308 spring and buffer on an AR15 probably isnt a good idea.
