Need NV help

Post by BJK »

It's been awhile since I used it, but the last time I used my PVS14 behind a red dot I had no problem with it.

Last night I put it on the 300BO and while I could focus the NV for distance and my eye, no trouble there, I would put it on the rail behind the CompM4 and the aiming point was severely out of focus. No matter what I tried, nothing helped. I am definitely open to suggestions as long as they don't involve off gun use. I definitely want it mounted on the gun using the red dot mounted on the gun as the aiming point (no lasers).

A bit more background, the CompM4 has NV settings and I was using them. The gun mount is made for the purpose.

Thanks folks!

Pretty sure I figured it out. It was an optical artifact, the rest was me. But time will tell.

If you dont mind my asking, "who manufactured your pvs14?"

The reason I'm asking is because most manufacturers suggest you do not directly mount these units as they are not designed for .30 caliber recoil.

I was told thats the quickest way to void my warranty was to strap that thing on anything larger than a .22 caliber.

The printing on the label has long since mostly worn away. I'm almost certain that it was a Litton unit, but frankly I've had it for so long (20 years?) that I just don't remember. It came with no manual that I remember and hence no warnings. This is the first I heard of that. I'm certain that I inquired from the seller as to what it could survive. I don't remember the mention of any feeble requirements. I'm certain I would have asked about .308/7.62. I don't intend to put it on that, but subsonic 300BLK is certainly pretty tame in the recoil dept. It might even have less recoil than 5.56.

Edit: I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about NV. Understand that. But I just did a 'net search for info. What I found was folks putting it on 7.62 and maybe having problems. The newer the unit the more likely to have problems. Mine isn't that. It was said that they'd be OK on 6.5 but not on 7.62. Also something about "halo" and I'm not going to pretend to know what they meant by that. But anyway, it's about recoil and not bore diameter. I think I'll be good with the 300BLK recoil since it's almost a mouse gun in the recoil dept. I'll know more if I ever use it on it. But that's not going to be a regular thing. Heck, it might never happen at all and if it does, worrying about the NV unit would be the last of my concerns.
