1st hog hunt

Post by 6t7goat »

I got to go on my 1st hog hunt yesterday. Naturally I took my 300 blkout. I built the gun myself its a PSA lower with ALG trigger and PSA parts kit. Upper is a PSA with a 16" DB barrel. (got thru this site). carbine length gas system, Magpul MOE furniture and a Nikon Prostaff 5 3x9 BDC scope. He was a big boy around 200 lbs. I shot him from about 50yrds away. I used 130gr hog hammer. I hit him right around the shoulder he took a few steps and dropped. No second shot was required. I was super happy with the guns performance and won't hesitate to use it the next time I go. 2 others I was hunting with both took down hogs also one used a 30-30 and the other a 308. Both hogs required a 2nd bullet behind the ear to finish them off. Their initial shot placements were similar to mine. Not sure what bullets they were using. I was glad that mine was a fast clean kill. Cant wait for the next trip.

Congrats!

When you get more comfortable hog hunting you can do the ear hole shot and never worry about them running.

I always recommend the ear hole shot because tracking hogs into thick thorny brush, or mud, or worse tracking one that is not so dead is not my idea of fun :)

Nice Bacon !

I was very impressed by the Hog Hammer ammo during deer season.

Going to be trying it on hogs in the next month or so as soon as I can get away.
