Shot a deer downunder with the sub 300BLK

Post by SSGA »

Well I asked a few questions about the 300Blk and subsonic loads on deer and not a lot of joy, so I went and tested it out

Using Remington Factory 220gn OEM I shot this large fallow buck at 50m through the chest.

Here is the entrance hole under the skin

Here is the exit inside the chest, it cut through 2 ribs.

The horses and cows never even lifted their heads to see what the pop was....

Thanks guys

Chris

I'd love to see these pictures. Is it just my computer or are they not showing up?

Nice Fallow!

I am running subs in my Encore for around town pest control, a single low volume pop doesnt disturb a single soul from their precious sleep(a second shot within several minutes will usually wake people up), but they usually can smell the skunk after it has been hit and looses control of bodily functions.............LOL

Good on ya mate, nice fallow!

Did you use a suppressor? I did not notice one in the image containing your rifle. What else do you have in mind for hunting in your area? Was wondering if you had hogs, kangaroos, or wallabies pestering you that were next on the list?

Actually I'm not sure what you are even allowed to hunt, so any info would be great.

Well suppressors are prohibited here, which led to the use of the subs and the whole idea of buying the rifle!

We cannot hunt wallaby or kangaroo without control permit and even then we cannot use them as trophys.

We do however have 7/8 species of deer and countless vermin such as camels, buffalo, goats, pigs, etc the list goes on...

Cheers

Well done! I have a chocolate one on the wall. It is one of my favorite trophies.

Nice deer. Are they usually that light in color?

I kind of remember seeing a documentary 20+ years ago on pest control in Australia, if I remember right, people would shoot camels, donkeys or wild horses, and other larger animals and then field dress them, put them in a refrigerated trailer and the meat would end up as dog food. Seems like a good way to get rid of the excess animals causing damage to the range land.

YOU HAVE VERMIN CAMELS THERE?! Nice shot on the deer. Can you get/use supersonic 300 BLK ammo? If no suppressor, I don't see the reason (other than because you can) for subs.
