Oklahoma Feral Hogs Jan 1, 2018

Post by Wes_Edens »

A video and introduction:

I've been reading this forum for several months now as I am relatively new to reloading and shooting the 300. I've been dropping feral hogs with a 30-06 around our place for a few years but but wanted to try an ATN X-Sight on something with less recoil (for the sake of the X-Sight). A lot of the hunting I do is close quarters in dense brush (killed one a day or two ago with a .40 S&W handgun at close range) so the 300 seemed like a perfect fit.

Thought I'd post some of the videos on here assuming I can figure out how :)

Nothing like some fresh wild pork in the smoker for the new year.

I'm assuming that was during the day due to the resolution? How do you like the X-Sight. It is on my short list.

Cheers!

Yes, during the day. We have so many around our place I get my exercise in the morning by walking out the fields and usually see at least one every day. Once they started coming into our yards and tearing them up it was game on.

The X-Sight: I like it. I bought the 5x-20 and if I had it to do again I would have bought the 3x-14 instead just to have a wider field of view. About the only time I go above 10x is working in a new load for the gun. At night anything above 5x is difficult to find a running target. The X-Sight works well for its purpose but has the same drawbacks any IR has, namely hard to see through the brush. I did put an upgraded IR on it and I can easily see the mailbox at the end of the driveway which is roughly 150-180 yards.

I want to put a hunt together for a couple friends this year. Hogs would be desired targets.

We have several 'hog hunting' ranches around us and I would guess they do quite the business as we are infested with them.

Video I shot yesterday when I decided to just wait and see how many came out of a 40 acre tract.
