French made Nobel Sport smokeless powder at Grafs?

Post by TreeTopFlier »

I was checking powder at Graf & Sons and ran across a French smokeless powders by Vectan Nobel Sport...New to me but probably not to you guys. My new discoveries are always old news around here
http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/sea ... ords/nobel

List of powders from the web site
http://www.vectan.fr/UK/range-of-powders

Load data
http://www.vectan.fr/UK/reloading-charges

Didn't see anything for Blackout specific but looking at their offering for big bore pistol, a powder listed as Ba6 1/2 would be a likely candidate for blackout.
Not in stock of course

Did see some pistol powders in stock.

Maybe the powder famine is starting to create new supply opportunities.

FWIW

Called Graf's today to ask about this powder...they said they carried it many years ago then stopped because importing became difficult. According to the rep, It has become easier to import recently so they added the line back in again. I was like...easier....really...wha....are you sure....but then I moved on.

So they don't currently carry the ba61/2 but may add it. I am interested because it has possibilities for blackout. I will keep checking in and if they stock it I may grab some up and do some testing...I'll be the guinea pig.

cheers,

I have 1lb each of Vectan Tubal 2000, 3000, 5000 and 8000. I don't even see the TU 2000 listed any more on their web site but it is (or was) right next to A1680 on the burn rate.

Well someone get some loads worked up and post the data. I am always interested in playing with new powders, but appreciate a REAL pioneer doing the initial workups.

google translate plays with the table some, but there are some powders available that show promise.

Notice the load data was used in a 22" Sako bolt and an M16 supressed

Wow good find guys, very curious....Sp10 max load 125 gr sierra produced 2400+ fps with 21.6gr powder. But on the burn rate chart aleaddict posted shows the burn rate of SP10 slower than 4895  Sounds a little too good to be true even with a longer barrel...or did I look at that wrong?

...on the Grafs site under the "Technical Notes" section there is a link to Vectan's Reloaodng data, the chart on page #4 shows that "Ba6 1/2" is equivalent to H110, Enforcer, W296 and N110, all proven performers for 300Blk.

Agree, that was my first choice based on the info I saw...I was just noting that in the data that dellet found for the whisper, one particular 125gr load (sp10) max f/s was 2460 with what seemed to be a much slower burning powder. My first thought is that must be a typo...but it is interesting.

I have always thought that if there was a fine powder that had similar expansion to h-110 but a slower burn, it would give blackout a little more velocity particularly in longer barrels. I'm guessing you could fit 22gr of H110 like powder in a blackout case and if it burned a little slower you could manage pressure....all hypothetical of course.
