I loaded up a few rounds of 147 gr FMJ pulls with lil' gun. Can't remember the exact charge- it was around 14 grains

When I get to the range I can let you know how they shake out. I used the pet load minus a bit from this forum's lil'gun thread.

I have some 4227, but i have a feeling that will be mostly used for 30.06 cast bullet loads that i am working up.

cheers,

Here is everything I know about H110. It is rarer than hens teeth growing on ground unicorn horn in Atlantis. I have tried for over a year to find some in stock. Never has been.

I have seen a lot of W 296 lately, and a brief sighting of H110. Just wanted to get Lil'gun to start, but maybe shoulda got the H110..

If I see an 8 lb keg of either lil'gun or H110 you can bet the credit comes right out of the pocket...

Yet we have H110 sitting on the shelf of the closest gun shop where I live and more at the second closest gun shop near me.

I am interested in hearing more about your experience with 4227 and the cast boolit. I have developed my own boolit which I have so far done limited testing in my 30-06. They are all powder coat both non gas checked and gas checked. Image

AA 5477 is a good powder for supers too. I've had good luck with that and 125 SST's. For subs, the only powder that seems to work in my guns is IMR 4198 and it works well with 208 AMAX or 200 Spitzers. 296 turns my rifle into a bolt action as it will eject but not load, but the accuracy is good. I know I had problems with 4227 cycling the action and the same with 5477 in subs.

I've used them all and imr 4227 was the most accurate for 110 pills (all compressed and uses a lot of powder; not very cost effective in the long run). Also 4227 can be the most problematic with cycling. Lilgun is the most accurate with 125 pills. As this is my go to powder for my hunting load with 125 sst. I haven't done enough testing with H110 but it seemed to be between 4227 and lilgun for accuracy. And 1680 is king of the sub's but its like shooting a blackpowder rifle in how dirty it is. Lilgun is very clean.

I got out last weekend with a first set of ladder loads for 30.06 and a new to me Chrony. I really like having a chrony, it makes load development seem less like guesswork.

I used the xtreme copper plated 150gr flat point with a winchester primer and federal brass with IMR 4227. I am not sure if the chrony was placed at an official 10 feet or not since i didn't bring a tape.

These loads were taken from the load table for a Lyman 155gr cast boolit. Xtreme suggests keeping the copper plated bullet below 1600 fps, so i started at the loading which were around that on the table.

21.5 grains loads averaged around 880 fps with 2 readings at 1192 and 1544!

22.5 grs 848(!) and 1664

23.5 seemed much more stable at 1769,1763,1702,and 1784

20grs 882.3

Next time i head out to the range with a spreadsheet for better note-taking..lol

As a control subject i shot 5 rounds of my ol' standby 165 gr Sierra gameking over 47 grains of IMR 4064
they were 2598,2561,2558,2464,2532. This round shoots sub-MOA if i do my part. my 3 shot best group was about .75 with 2 shots touching.

What seems to be the biggest factor is how a small charge of powder is sitting in the very large 30-06 case. The most consistent readings 23.5 gr were obtained by tapping the round vertically before chambering and then raising the muzzle to a near vertical position to make sure powder was mostly next to the primer.

at a glance the high readings from each loading seem about right, will check it against the table. I measured each charge to .1gr individually.

My shooting buddy suggested using some wadding of some sort to hold the powder next to the primer so that seem to be the next step.

Hope to get the next set of test rounds made and will test the wadding concept with cotton.

Whoops this is a 300 BLK forum! hope y'all are ok with this...

cheers,

Lil'Gun is not a good powder choice for rifle cartridges as it has more nitro and has pressure spikes at cold temps. If you use it, load to about 50,000 psi max.

Where might that be?
