Reloading Barnes Tac Tx

Post by vetman »

I have some factory loaded 110 grain Barnes Tac TX ammunintion that I want to pull the bullets and reload them myself. The ammunintion was bought probably a year ago, but I had two failure to fires yesterday with my Micro 7. I am guessing the primers are too hard and I plan on replacing them with CCI #400 primers.

What is the most accurate way to load these? Which powder to use and what COAL would be best? Any additional tips to increase my accuracy out of the Micro 7?

I am still working on getting someone to help me measure the distance to my lands so I do not have that information yet.

Secondly, at 50 yards the Barnes Tac TX is shooting 4 inches high and to the right compared to my subsonic loads. I am using a Specwar 7.62 for suppression. Is that much change expected?

Or do I need a subsoniv gun and a second supersonic gun?

4" shift between subsonic and supersonic, especially with the bullet weight differences.... is extremely good.

I load the Blacktip over 18.5g N110
2.244" oal, 1.505" by comparator
CCI 400 primer
factory RP case with a light crimp
Gives me just shy of 2100 fps out of my 9" barrel and groups very well in my gun

My most accurate load is 19.0gr of H110/W296 @ 2.23COL, WSR or CCI 400's. 16" AAC upper, and 9" AAC Suppressed.

WFT? 2.24" OLA?

Aren't we talking about a 110gr bullet here? Every load I've seen for the 110gr bullets is around 2.00" OAL.

At 2.244", the Barnes TAC-TX wouldn't even hardly seat.

Guns are tools designed for dirty work both competitive and defensive. If I meet someone with a well worn gun, I hope their barrel is pointed the same direction as mine if the lead starts flying...

Better check your data. Barnes recommends 2.25 COL. 110 doesn't seat deeply as 20 gr is probably a compressed load.

I load the 110 Tac-TX with 20 grains of H110. It happens to be the best grouping I got out of my 10.3 inch 1:8 twist. They cycle great. No signs of over pressure. I want the most I can get in velocity as I hunt with mine. When seated to 2.25 the brass is right in the middle of the canelure.

Try some decaf man
My posted OAL is very much possible and the only 110g bullet I load to 2.000" OAL is the Hornady spire point

Factory Blacktip ammo measures 2.240 COAL. The 110g Blacktip is designed for 300 BLK and is one very long bullet (similar to the SMK 125g which is typically 2.210 COAL).

MY bad...

I was looking at my NON-tipped TAC-X 110 bullets. The bullet length on the TAC-TX and the TSX are much longer due to the tip.

Back off on the caffeine? NEVER! Caffeine is a performance enhancing drug for a Personal Trainer. I've got to be wired by 0600...

hahah
