18.8gr Under Speer TNT 125??

Post by tmkilburn »

Anyone loaded into the high 18's using H110 under a Speer TNT with good results? I have a bunch loaded At 17.6grs, which is what my autodisk measure throws pretty consistently. Only pressure sign is a slightly cratered primer, but the primers are still hard to push out with a decapper. I was wanting to move the autodisk to the next slot which throws about 18.6-18.8 on average to gain some velocity. Anyone tested any at that powder load with good results? I've seen some people running 19.2 with SBR's.

I tested 18-19.5gr of H110 thru my 8.2" barrel...only shot 3 rounds of each at 18,18.5,19, and 19.5 for tests. Had one primer that looked flatted at 19gr. OAL on all was 2.06 with a factory crimp on all. Ended up sticking with the 18gr load as it was the most accurate for me. YRMV!

Ive gone up ro 19.4 at 2.06 with no problems. Dont have my notes in front of me for accuracy info though. I think 18.8 was good accuracy out of my 9".

Do yourself a favor and get the double disk kit, will give you greater flexibility on your powder charges

17.6 is my most accurate load for the Spear 125gr TNT. I have been very happy with the accuracy. I am getting some flattening of the primers but no other signs of pressure. I am running them through a 16" AAC upper at an elevation of 3023 at the Tucson S.E.R.P. range. I have loaded them up to 18.2 with a bit more flattening of the primers but no other signs of pressure. The accuracy dropped off sharply for me at 18gr

Accuracy Load data (MOA or better):
Bullet: Speed 125gr TNT
Powered: WW 296 17.60
Length at oGive: 1.489
OAL: approximately 2.062
Trim: 1.358 +/- .002
Primer CCI #41 NATO
Brass: R-P AAC 300 BLACKOUT

Plinking load data:
Bullet: Speed 125gr TNT
Powered: WW 296 17.00
Length at oGive: 1.489
OAL: approximately 2.062
Trim: 1.356 +/- .004
Primer CCI #41 NATO
Brass: LC 04

Load development:
Rifle: AAC 300 BLACKOUT 16" upper
Temp: 80 Deg
Altitude: 3023
Range: 100 yards / verified at 200 yards
ST Pressure: 28.89
Humidity: 22%
Wind: 2-4 mph (coming from the rear left side of the shooter and passing to the front right)

I realize that I am missing a very important component and that is FPS. I have lost the data. I had a spread sheet with my muzzle velocity that is now gone. If memory serves me correctly I was getting approximately 2175FPS with the 17.6gr and 2020 with the 17g.

I am heading back to the range tomorrow so I will see if I can get some velocity data. I will be sighting and breaking-in the barrel of my 6.5 Creedmoor tomorrow. Looking forward to a fun day.

P.S.
I have tried loading to 18.6 but found them to be a bit to hot for my rifle and loacation. My ladders went up to 19g. I stopped at 18.6.

See my range report on this same page. 18.8 gr worked great for that load. Just under 2000fps from 9" aac upper. Went to 19gr with similar velocity. 18.8 actually showed the best accuracy out of my test loads from 18.0 to 19.0. Liked it so much that I just loaded a couple hundred more at 18.8 so I can actually shoot some for something other than load development.

Howdy,

I hate to bring up an old thread but I thought I would instead of starting a new one about the same thing.

I'm just starting my 300 BLK journey and have just received 200 Speer 125gr TNT bullets and I'm loading them using H110 powder.

My combo:

Ghost Rifles 10.5" pistol length upper
Stag Arms lower
Palmetto State Armory lower parts kit

Hodgden list 17.8gr max for the 125gr BT but the above posters have listed loads above the max load. No biggie. Most listed max loads are still on the safe side.

Does anyone have more load info to share?

I've been loading Hornady 150gr FMJs at 2.10" and plan on loading the 125s to the same length.

Thanks!

Paul
