Hello. I use 220 gr subsonic bullet for shooting in my AR-15 rifle. I use many powders but
last two weeks i am interested for St. Marks Powders.
I used WC-297 for supersonic loads but what powder to use for subsonic.
U use H110, IMR... but i want something form St.Marks. Anyone try?

Any thoughts on using Hodgdon Varget?

I have HS-6, Varget, H380, RL15, Green Dot, Red Dot, Blue Dot, Power Pistol, Unique, on hand. My question is this, does this cartridge perform more like a pistol round or a rifle round, or even a shotgun round? Does it perform better with a "quick" powder like a shotshell load or a pistol load? I'm just guessing that because of the short length and small capacity for a powder charge that it would need something out of a small charge and ignite quickly, kinda like a .20 gage would want? Thoughts?

Since I have 8 pounds of 2400 and no magnums to load with it, I started using it in my BO pistol. 10.5" barrel.
Began with the LEE 230 gr and couldn't get good ignition/consistent burn.
Picked up some Missouri bullet compant 245 gr Hi Tek coated bullets sized .309.
Not many loads for this bullet powder combo out there.
Took a WAG and started with 8.0 gr over a CCI SRP and got function and 1250 fps.
Worked down to 7.4 to get cycling and 1020 fps.
7.2 gr would cycle but only achieved 950 fps.
Burned clean with no leading.
Now to load some 7.5 and 7.3 also and check for accuracy.
Then I will work up a super load with 2400 and the Lee 155 gr .310 bullet

I haven't read through all 16 pages yet, but
CFE blk will push 220gr cast and jacketed subs from my AR (16in pistol gas) . Fully cycles and is medium on the dirty scale.

You didn't mention what kind of firearm, subsonic or supersonic. I use a few different pistol /faster powders for my suppressed 8" barreled AR: N105, N110, N120, Blue Dot, RE7 & AA9. N105 is the quietest, followed closely by Blue Dot. N120 is the most consistent.Carnivore wrote:I have HS-6, Varget, H380, RL15, Green Dot, Red Dot, Blue Dot, Power Pistol, Unique, on hand. Hey guys I've been scrolling through the pages. This is what I have and what I'm looking for.
I have a Ruger American ranch in 300 blk. 16 inch with a Griffin armament Optimus. Shooting NOE 235 grain SP and a NOE 235 gr HP, both hi tek coated and ww for the most part. I was using unique 5.5 gr that averaged 960 fps. Super quiet, but not very accurate. Usually 3 to 4 moa with flyers, no keyholing and its sd and ES were always great, don't know why it isn't accurate . I've now laddered imr 4227 using about 9.2 gr I think running 1020 fps with fantastic accuracy. SP are sub MOA and HP are 1 to 1.5 MOA, but a little louder than the unique.
I'm looking for the quietness of unique and the accuracy of Imr 4227. Seen people talk about red dot, could this be it, what kind of accuracy are yall getting with it? I've tried, imr 4198, h110, Lil gun as well, mainly for my gas gun, so I know they would work but not as quiet. Any help would be appreciated

I also have a RA bolt gun so no need to cycle. Interested in subs , 90-110 gr quiet, light loads 900-1000 FPS , plinking and anything under 60yds .
I have TB ,4227 and 1680 . Don't have any unique. i have 85,90,110gr and some 0.312" 60gr projectiles resized to .309.
This thread was exactly what I was looking for.
Any more tried and true recipes since the last post in April 2017 ? i.e best combination of quietest and accuracy for light projectiles
Thanks all, I appreciate it.

I use 3.6gr Trail Boss, Berry's 110gr with a WSR primmer. Out of my Solo pistol (~5" barrel) it does 830fps. Out of my 16" barrel the same load will do 900fps.
Both guns are slide actions and very quite suppressed.

Re: Powders For the 300 blk. Links to published Data added.
Thanks much Sir . What Cartridge overall length are you, or anyone else using with these light projectiles (90/110 grain) ?
Some data I found is saying around 1.75" Cartridge overall length. My buddy who reloads (mostly max loads in 270 and 5.56) is telling
me that i'm going to have "bullet jump" problems chambering such short projectiles and it's too short for the projectile to seat the rifling.
I'd really appreciate any input on this concern, and maybe put it in perspective ? I have some Speer .308 90 and 110 Gr JHP , Sierra .308 85 RN and 125 gr HP . (I understand they wont expand much)
I got I this Ruger American 300AAC just for 60 yards short range stuff. 970 fps CCI Suppressor ammo thru my 10/22 got me into the whole "subsonic" thing and i'm ok with all the shortcomings of sub ammo . I have a 22-250 and 30-06 , both obviously cover anything distance and precision needs. Been shooting all my life but just getting started in reloading. This forum is a great help. Sorry for the newb questions !
