There tends to be a lot of newer 300 blk owners, and re-loaders joining lately, and I believe that will continue to grow. They are constantly asking about powders. Often powders that are way to slow to be used effectively in the 300 blk. So this is going to be a List of powders that can be used in the 300 blk. It is a beginning and the list will be adjusted and or modified as things progress. This will not be for specific loads, although some may be listed, but will be broken down for supersonic powders, subsonic powders, powders that work for both, as well subsonic powders for bolt action and single shot, and may be broken down more as things progress. I may add notes to the original Post to each powder, with the understanding that sometimes what works for one gun combo may not work for another gun combo. If you see something not right let me know, by also giving supporting reasoning. Simply telling me I am wrong won't help. This may be ongoing and won't necessarily be complete for a while.
Powders that clearly work and have been tested thoroughly be AAC.
Super sonic- H110
Subsonic- Accurate 1680
Powders that have been tested and tried by others.
VihtaVuori N110 Sierra Lists for subs and super sonic loadings for 300 whisper.

Powders for subsonic single shot, bolt action
Trail boss- good for lighter grain subs, can work for heavy subs but requires almost a full case and a very compressed load.

Re: Powders For the 300 blk
Powders from 60-72 on the Hodgdon burn rate chart SHOULD all work(most have been proven to work) in the AR15 platform.
In a bolt gun you could go to a much faster powder(think pistol powders), but I wouldnt go slower into the more "real" rifle powders.

Re: Powders For the 300 blk
To save a bunch of questions, you may want to add W296 next to H110, with a note that they are the same powder.

Re: Powders For the 300 blk
I like the topic, good initiative on consolidating info for the new comers. Certifiable has done some pretty good work on Subsonic powders for both carbine and pistol gas systems. RL-7 seems to work somewhat with subsonic loads in Carbine (which will work for pistol) gas systems with maybe a few bolt hold open (BHO) issues but that may not bother too many.
Good work
Good work

Has N120 been discontinued? The LGSs by me that carry VV can not get 120.

Great info. Thanks for the post..
Re: Powders For the 300 blk
Geez. And i thought i was the only who ever tried sr4759. Turns my carbine gas rifle into a single shot (no jams, doesnt even try to cycle), but highly accurate.

I actually am not sure about the feasibility of SR4759. It is on the burn chart in between all the others, but you are the only one I know of that has tried it.crs7861 wrote:Geez. Honestly I don't know. I have not seen a lot of the VV powders in my area.lupy123 wrote:Has N120 been discontinued? The LGSs by me that carry VV can not get 120.
