200 gr maker rex w/ VV120?

Post by Shooter31 »

Looking for some input on using VV120 with some 200gr maker rex bullets.
Anyone care to share some experience or point me in direction of load data for that specifically.
I have been given some data for h110 and 1680.
Running a 8.5 AR and would like clean/quiet equal as 1st priority and accuracy 2nd (1.5 inch at 50 is fine) I think n120 has the ability but not much info out there on this combo.

I would check where the bullet hits the lands and back it off .015”. Measure overall length.

Drop 11 grains into a fired case with a fired primer still on the bottom, drop in 11 grains and measure overall length.

Use the shorter of the two lengths as my starting load and check velocity. Adjust powder charge and seating depth to keep the bullet on the powder.

Ok, I loaded some 200gr makers with the N120. Shooting at 50 yds
1. 9.9grs at 2.100 col got me 1032fps and a SD of 10.7 all looked good and group was about 1 1/4 inch

2. 10grs and 2.100 col got me 1015fps and a SD of 16.2 all looked good group was probably 2 inches

3. 10.1grs and 2.163 col got me 958fps and a SD of 12 group was 4 just under 1/2 inch and I flyer that opened it up to about a inch. But I had 1 case neck split but no other marks on brass.

Yall reckon the last one was just a weak brass, maybe 3rd reload on it. I wouldn't think any of these loads would be a high pressure load. I do think it was odd my speed went down with slightly more powder.(the longer load maybe)
