I would suspect the chronograph was off, reading slow. A conventional chronograph, optical, depends n shadows. Last shots of the day, getting dark, and strange readings make sense. Other thing is batteries. Just double check

Some bullets can create their own sonic wave due to shape and the cannelure, but you are generally at borderline speeds anyway for this to have an affect.
300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.
