Looking at these two bullets for use in a 1:7 16" Savage bolt:

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1018229522?pid=894708
Primary use will be medium game within 200 yards.
I've tried a search but didn't turn up much.
Who has experience with these bullets, results, impressions?
Thanks, Matt.

Re: Question re Hornady 135FTX and MonoFlex 140
I very much like the 135 ftx in the BO. Was using 125 Vmax or SST (dont rem). I loaded a pile years ago when I found a load)
I saw these couple years back and grabbed a box. I have taken three maybe 4 deer with the bullet and unlike the 125 I have not recovered a bullet.
Its extra 10g helps and not a single complaint from the animals.

Thanks CW- what were you using for load data?

I worked it up myself. But 300mp data is in a new manuals Id need to look to see whos I saw it in.
PLEASE CONFIRM, But IIRC 18.9/19.2 was MAX. I had already worked up before I saw this data. My load is 100% in my Ruger Bolt, but too hot in three M$R's.

Good to know, thanks.

Found some 135s locally. Don't have 300MP but have CFEBLK, IMR4227 and LilGun- going to extrapolate some numbers and hopefully start loading some initial rounds this wknd.
Found this for load data-

Re: Question re Hornady 135FTX and MonoFlex 140
Typical group from the range session today with the 135 FTX. It's probably me having a hard time steering such a small, light rifle but have struggled to break .5 even at 100, groups today were in the .6s.
Velocity wasn't what the load data suggested, it seems that this barrel is in fact on the slow side- not the end of the world just need to calibrate accordingly.
Will have to run the #s but for now it seems it may be almosta wash between the 150gr Speers and the 135gr FTX.
Re: Question re Hornady 135FTX and MonoFlex 140
That’s better than probably 90% percent of people even think the cartridge is capable of, including many owners. Nice to see people who take the time to develop a good load.
The FTX line seem to like the Blackout. A while ago CW and I did some work with the 160 grain 30-30 Winchester bullet. Plenty accurate but a bit challenged for speed, it jams at a very short length. It would work well within 100 yards, as long as you can get around 1950 for a muzzle velocity.
Again, nice shooting

300 Blackout, not just for sub-sonics.
Re: Question re Hornady 135FTX and MonoFlex 140
Thanks dellet.
Accuracy with the 135s wasn't really any better than the 150s and the velocity wasn't there even with compressed loads. I'm seeing 1950 with the 150s and only got to 2020 with the 135s. After putting the numbers through a ballistics calculator it looks like the 150s make more sense so I will focus on them.
Going to try casting as well, prob start with the 170gr Lee mould. Have cast for pistol and subsonic 450BM before but never tried supersonic so will be looking at powder coating.

Re: Question re Hornady 135FTX and MonoFlex 140
Looking back at your powders, not surprised.
Lil’gun will get the velocity, but often at the expense of accuracy. 4227 just has too much volume, CFE is just under performing.
If you’re looking for velocity, 296/H110 is tough to beat. The problem can be at the high end of the load, small changes mean a lot. Just watch pressure signs. I generally make powder adjustments by the 1/10 and seated depth by .010”. Works well with 95-100% density.
Once it compresses pressure can go up quick. To ease that, I use a fired case, drop the powder, then set the bullet on the powder. Measure that, and set my COL .010” Longer.
For what it’s worth, I do the same with 1680, but shorten the COL, to compress the powder. I love to have a measurable number, example .010” compression. Easier than trying to figure density.
