300 BO 147 tracers
I bought some 308 pulled tracer bullets. They are very long for the weight 147. Twice as long as 150 gr. I'm going by the Lee load list for H110 at 2.235 17.5 gr. But that looks like it packs powder, maybe too tight?

have you weighed them to confirm you actually have 147 gr bullets?

Yes they are 147gr
Re: 300 BO 147 tracers
Room is needed for the phosphorus or whatever they use as the tracer material, that requires space. I bet it's not as heavy as lead. So yes, I'd expect the bullet to be longer. Can't help you with the load.
Re: 300 BO 147 tracers
If the tracer is longer, or any other bullet you might want to substitute, and you pad to the same length, with the same charge you are asking for trouble.dieselherb wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 8:38 am I bought some 308 pulled tracer bullets. You need to either add the length of the longer bullet to the COL you want to use, or drop the powder charge.
Example would be if the bullet is .150” longer, then your COL will need to be 2.385”. Which will not fit in a magazine and may not fit in the chamber. Knowing the length of the two bullets for comparison would be helpful.

I have 150gr bullets which are close to same length of 147gr tracer. Measuring tracer inside bore to point. Im guessing powder needs to fill that chamber?
Re: 300 BO 147 tracers
Loaded case capacity density is what you need to be concerned with. If the data you are trying to use has a 95% fill density, a bullet of the same weight, loaded to the same density should be safe. That's why you need to know the length of the bullet used in the Lee data. Then you can figure out the approximate load density.dieselherb wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 9:50 am I have 150gr bullets which are close to same length of 147gr tracer. Or you can drop 15 grains in a case that you can slip a bullet into and measure the loaded length. If it's shorter than magazine length, and fits your chamber, it's probably a safe place to start. I would want to know max charge that will fit, at the max length I can load to, That might be where the bullet hits the lands, might be magazine length, might be where the bullet fall out of the neck before either of the other two happen.
17 grains under a 150 grain bullet can and will ruin your day depending on load density and distance to the lands. Maybe film it for us if you start at 17.5 and the COL of a shorter bullet. Could be educational.
Last thing to be aware of is, can you legally shoot those? Most state and federal land will not allow incendiaries, as well as many ranges both public and private.

Not a problem where will live. Hornady shows for a 150gr interbond bullet 2.21oal 12.3 - 15.9gr H110. How can Lee 14.9 - 17.2gr? Also the difference in length at the tip is .072 tracer being longer.

Tried 14.5, fired fine but didnt lite the tracer that I could see. Will try 16gr. Retailer told me the bullets were from a 308 carriage and I may not have used enough powder to ignite the tracer.

I’ve got a bag full of 147 tracers and shoot them at around 950 fps with my RARR. Makes for a good time in the backyard. They burn bright pink and will continue burning underwater. Lights up the creek behind our house. Not sure how to post a video here but I’ve got a neat one from a few years ago.
