I wonder if this powder is also temp sensitive?

I hope not!!! I'm a pretty simple sum'bitch. I'm not sure I can cope with more variables!!!!dellet wrote:I wonder if this powder is also temp sensitive?
I'm sticking with the theory that deeper seating of the bullet is the culprit.

Great info on here as always.
Welcome johnhefley. Sounds like you'll fit right in, especially if talking to Rebel didnt scare you off!

I was wondering more about the ES getting worse than better. The velocity was more or less expected.johnhefley wrote:I hope not!!! I'm a pretty simple sum'bitch. I'm not sure I can cope with more variables!!!!dellet wrote:I wonder if this powder is also temp sensitive?

Rebel was very nice to me in our PM exchange.
To Dellet: I can't account for the ES today. In a couple of days I'll load up another batch at either 10.5 or maybe even 10.3 grains. I'm determined to develop a good subsonic load with this powder. I just need to keep probing around until I hit on the right combination.

I'm going to try a couple heavier bullets this weekend. Probably a 240 SMK and a very heavy cast.johnhefley wrote:Rebel was very nice to me in our PM exchange.

It has reasonable spreads loaded as a super, so we'll see.

My rifle is out of commission for a couple of weeks. Minor problem requiring return to the manufacturer.

Thanks for the kind words John. Alphawolf is "from here", I took him shooting at my range and he came away knowing a redneck army will shoot your ass off He's a fine young man and just giving me a bit of sh$t. Besides he is responsible for keeping the lights on for millions - I cut him a bit of slackjohnhefley wrote:Rebel was very nice to me in our PM exchange.

We're ALL part of a Redneck Army!!!
Sometimes the fragile, sensitive little snowflake inside of me trembles in fear at my own "arsenal of weapons" and "massive cache of ammunition"!!
Makes me wanna report myself!!!!!

Re: CFE 300 BLK first thoughts update 1/28/17
Gents, apologies for taking nearly a year to update my little science experiment!!
I'm narrowing in on what appears to be a pretty nice subsonic load. Basically, from my last effort, I've just reduced from 10.8 gr. to 10.5 gr. of 300 BLK powder.
I believe the powder is under just a slight bit of compression.
The rounds cycled perfectly, and consistently. Accuracy at 100 yards (using a 3X fixed magnifier) was quite good. I was mainly out to check the MV's. I wish I'd
mounted an optic with more magnification so that I could zero in a bit better.
The rifle:
Hardened Arms 300 BLK 10.5" barrel (pistol length gas tube) and welded and pinned 7" "Widow" suppressor.
Vortex Spitfire Prismatic 3X optic
Geissele SSA-E Trigger
Here's the load:
Hornady VLD-X 212 gr.
CCI Magnum Small Rifle Primers No. 450
10.5 gr. CFE BLK
2.181" COAL
1.46" Base to Ogive
It was a 55dF day, so the Speed of Sound was 1112. I fired 15 rounds, and noticed in the last 5 rounds I had a couple that were a bit faster than all of the others.
I'm ASSUMING that during my weighing/trickling process that some extra powder might've clung to some case lube in the casings on those two. I can't blame the powder. I expect it was "reloader error".
