Building a 300BO Remington 700 Pistol

Post by Taylor300 »

It seems like the few models of 300BO bolt pistols are expensive and not available for months after order. I was thinking of building one from parts:

1 - MDT LSS GEN2 CHASSIS
2 - Remington 700 receiver with X Mark Pro trigger
3 - KAK REM 700 10.5 INCH 300 BLK 1:7 5R STAINLESS BARREL
4 - Set of go/nogo gages
5 - Savage wrench

Seems like this would do it? I'm curious about ordering the 700 receiver and bolt. Do I go with a .223 bolt? Or a 30 cal bolt?

Thanks,

James

Sorry I’m just getting back to this. I finally picked up the MDT chassis on black Friday. I was also able to find a Remington 700 receiver in 223. At the moment I’m trying to find the barrel I want.

I’d like to go with a 9” if possible. But I’ve been having mixed answers on that question. I found a forum online where someone said a 9” won’t leave all the threads exposed after the end of the chassis to mount a suppresser. However, it looks like this is the same chassis that Gear Head Works uses on the One Pistol. I called them and they said all their models use the 9” barrel. Not sure if I should try that or just get the 10.5 at this point.

Did you start collecting parts for the build yet? What do you have?

Just keep in mind, the shorter you go the louder it is going to be even suppressed. This may not be a priority for you at all. And in that case, have at it. I'm just mentioning it because some folks go really short thinking it will suppress well and then they are surprised by how loud it is compared to a little bit longer length barrel.

Another update:

Thanks for the info ReadyAimDuck

I ended up going with a 10.5 barrel just to be on the safe side. KAK had one in stock so I ordered it. Wanted t go with a little better quality, but everything else was months out and I wasn't sure on the length. I put it all together and took it out to the range over the Christmas break. Love it! I was just checking for functionality, everything worked great. Tried some 150G reloads I had. I also tried some S&B subsonic with my Rugged Surge suppressor. Sounded great. Can't wait to try my subsonic reloads.

Next trip I will see how accurate it is at 50 and 100 yards.

Thanks again for all the help!

Edit: Forgot to mention that a 9" barrel would have been too short for that chassis if you want to use a suppressor. Looks like 9.5 would be perfect. If I get another barrel it will probably be a 10"
