I've used class III machining for 3 barrels and he does great work. Very reasonably priced as well.

From my experience, cutting down and threading the barrels isn't impossible at at. The problems that can come up are how to face the crown clean with minimal displacement issues. I've found that certain abrasive methods have had better results than cutting tools for some. What's generically "melonited" and such can have many different properties when doing something similar to this.

I assume that the hardening at the bore tends to chatter when cut vs ground?

Class 3 came through! he did a wonderful job of cutting and crowning the barrel. He has all the tooling to do the job right!!

I can't praise him enough, and he is a wonderful communicator.
