Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

Experimenting is one thing, but if you're wanting full tuning abilities with large varieties of components you might be better off opening up the port AND adding an adjustable gas block. Maybe even go to a pistol gas length (especially if you're wanting to play with subs). That is probably in the f...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

A word of caution about going outside of published data. Go slow and keep impeccable records. I have loaded rounds for a few "out of the box" ideas and learned a lot. What seems logical can be way off and what seemed impossible turned out to be easy. But all of it would have never been fi...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

Would running a lighter BCG help? Absolutely, as would drilling out the gas port, or reduced power spring. For me that would cure the symptom, but not help me with what I am trying to understand. Dolomite gave a suggestion that is along the lines of what I thought could be true, but will have to co...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

We have all played with COL in supers to fine tune accuracy. dellet, I'm in the same boat and playing with some of the same stuff. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it-with AR and single shot, and several kinds of bullets. Some present cyclic problems and others present ac...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

Rather than try to increase gas pressures try to reduce the gas pressures while increasing the powder charge. You could move the bullet out of the case some to decrease the initial pressures and then increase the powder charge some to give you more gas volume to push on the bolt when it unlocks. Th...

Re: UMC 220gr in stock

Has anyone (besides me) noticed that the bullet shape used in the UMC white/green box are different than the Remington yellow/green box? I assume that accounts for the difference in price but the UMC are definitely NOT the SMK 220 variant. I noticed that the UMC are rounder and seem to push against...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

Seating longer, into the lands will give higher chamber pressures but your not burning any more powder. So, where is your increased gas volume coming from? There would be a small but probably insignificant gain from air space in the case between powder and bullet. Adding a crimp, like certifiable s...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

You have discovered why anything under 200 grains is considered "Unreliable" for subsonic use. Lighter buffer / bolt carrier and reduced power springs are necessary to get an AR to cycle properly with the lighter subsonic bullets. Yeah kind of found the tipping point and using that to exp...

Re: Can chamber pressure be increased while decreasing veloc

Reduced power recoil spring or take a weight out of the buffer. Not what I am after. The load for this rifle is on the ragged edge in two different places. I do not want to increase muzzle pressure/velocity, but I would like to increase available gas pressure/volume to the bolt. Drilling the port i...
