Re: 300 Wilson Ham’r
From my experience, when converting 223 (mainly LC 5.56) to 300ham'r, proper lubrication (I use pure lanolin) and chamfering necks after cutting the cases will result in 99% success rate and the remaining 1% with split necks is not wasted, I just convert them to 300blk ;-) After sizing, I use Lee de...

Re: 300 Wilson Ham’r
I am converting from LC brass (years 18-20) and so far my success rate with LEE die is 98%+. Looks like chamfering the brass before sizing helps. During first couple 100s of cases I had ~3% split shoulders but once I started to chamfer I had only 1% or 2%. In fact, since forming of 300ha'r doesn't &...

Re: 300 Wilson Ham’r
While theorizing my reloading sequence for the cartridge, I realized that I don't have the H2O/Water volume for the case and it is require for load simulation.
Since I still don't have an access to the cases, I wonder if anyone could take a measurement and share with us.
Thanks.

Re: 300 Wilson Ham’r
@djones Thanks for the information. At the moment I am leaning toward 16" Ranger since it's the lightest (26Oz) and only ~20fps "slower" than the "standard" for the caliber 18". BTW, I am a bit confused regarding 300ham'r brass forming from 223 :?: Some people mention s...

Re: 300 Wilson Ham’r
I've found some information regarding 300ham'r barrel length vs velocity (Posted by Bill Wilson). Seems like velocity loss per inch is comparable to 300blk (under 20fps per inch). Also I did some comparisons for 16" barrel with simulated data from GRT (https://grtools.de/) and there is a consis...

Re: 300 Wilson Ham’r
I am considering getting into 300ham'r and having hard time deciding on barrel length/profile.
It would be nice to collect some data to be able to calculate velocity loss per inch.
Any input will help.
@djones
Which barrel length/profile do you have?

Thank you, everyone, for your valuable opinions. Since I've started this thread, I have consumed a lot of information. While I still have not arrived at the final conclusion, following guidelines of many posters in that thread ("know actual weapon limitations" and "use appropriate pro...

Re: Forming Die
I know I am resurrecting a very old thread but previous post is probably the most valuable piece of information on the subject, so I decided to continue. Recently, I've attempted to form a test batch of 223/5.56 (several headstamps) to 300blk and was experiencing some difficulties. (I use Lee Pacema...

Thank you guys for such valuable information, I really appreciate it. As someone who just trying to get into the hunting, I will need help understanding what "bloodshot shoulder" means. Does that refer to the bleeding out of entry and exit wounds, due to heavy damage of the surrounding ti...
