300Blk optics

Post by cornshuck »

I am looking for a new optic for my 300blk. I just don't like iron sights. I use mainly for protection. I need something for up close and out to 75 yards. I prefer a red dot or something like the Eotech XPS2-300. I just don't like the ring in the optic. Would prefer something with just the red dot. I looks at the Burris Fastfire III, but it is so small. Maybe it is for just pistols, even though they say it is okay on rifles. Any suggestions? Thanks.
P.S. Or does anybody make regular open rifle sights or pistol sights for an AR?

Probably your best bang for the buck would be http://www.primaryarms.com/hs503g-acss/p/hs503g-acss/

Either that or one of their regular advanced mirco dots which are a little cheaper. I have had one of their older model red dots for 5 years now, same battery in it, never loses zero, and I even dropped my entire rifle once and it landed on the sight...

I would like to try one of these on an AR. Seems like it would be perfect for closer shooting.

I've shot an AR with Burris Fastfire on it and it was OK. Some of my sighting equipment includes a Primary Arms Aimpoint clone red dot(no longer catalogued), and a Primary Arms Prism sight. http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms ... 3xak300bo/ The fact that it has an etched reticle means that it doesn't need a battery to function in daylight, so that is a plus.

If you're happy with 1x like a red dot, consider:

Lucid HD7 http://www.primaryarms.com/l-hd7-tan/p/l-hd7-tan/

Vortex Strikefire II http://www.primaryarms.com/vortex-strik ... sf-rg-501/

Vortex Spitfier AR http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/400562 ... hgodVqAPTQ

If $$ isn't an issue, consider a Meprolight http://www.meprolight.com/?catid=%7B2D1 ... 751DD4A%7D

or Trijicon 1x42 https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products ... x&mid=1x42

I went with an aimpoint pro for the same application. The battery life is unreal. Leave it on all the time so it's ready when you need it and change the batteries once a year to be on the safe side. Quick target acquisition and precise enough for shots out to 100yds no sweat. It's a great all around optic for everything but hunting when you need some magnification.

....you might want to also look at the Bushnell TRS-25. Excellent quality, excellent mounts (low & AR riser), excellent range of dot brightness adjustability and recent sales at Brownells had them under $100. Mines been going strong for over 3 years, same battery and takes abuse like the old Timex watch commercials....

FWIW, I've run it on 556, 300BLK and 12ga with no issues...

I just mounted a Trijicon MRO on my truck gun. A buddy have been using one for a bit now. I'm pretty impressed. It is worth a look.

I'm running a older AimPoint 5000 on mine.

You will not find a superior quality dot or product. If you can swing the cost, get one! You will NOT be dissapointed!! If too rich, look for a used. Couple years back, I bought a USED AimPoint COMP-C its been awesome!

I have used the Bushnell TRS-25 Its OK, BUT its also only 100$ not $400+ that the AimPoint is. Just last weekend, I was at a 3 Gun event and couple guys had VOTREK SPARC II red dot sites... I was impressed!! It very similar in size and shape to the TRS bushy. But about 200$, LIFETIME warranty and solid controls.

I use a Trijicon mro, its slightly bigger then the Aimpoint micro series so you dont feel like your looking through a straw. It also is around $200 less in price then the Aimpoint and has what I consider better controls.
