After a lot of load development and practice shooting paper and steel out to 400m with the newly acquired scope the 300 blackout was ready to drop some animals at range.
On the hill the dog bluffed us out scenting in a spot I haven't been to before. Hour and a half later and 600m down hill we finally spotted a deer a yearling hind bedded down with its mother feeding next to it but at 360m and a down hill LOS @-34 it was too far.
We crawled through the matigari onto a little rock outcrop for a solid rest, the range now 251m and LOS -32.3 chambered a 208gr A-Max doing 1050fps and dialled up 23.5 MOA which is 67.6" or 1.7m drop.
and a 2 MOA hold for wind. Pop goes the Blackout thud goes the an ear shot and she rolls over where she lay, then 6 more deer pop their heads up and start moving off, so a quick range for one of the stags and a dial up at 21.7 MOA 238m and another pop thud right between the eyes and drop like a rock, its a buzz head shooting animals with what ever calibre and just that much more to do it with a subsonic rifle. Dropped 25 goats as well. 43 deer seen for the 3 day trip and 4 mobs of pigs.
The backs and knees a bit sore now with a 13 hour walk out and 40kg of boned out meat.

Red hind 251m or 274 yards drilled in the ear

nice shooting! definitely not for the inexperienced, but it shows that in capable hands a subsonic blackout can be incredibly effective hunting load.

kudo's to you for doing your homework and knowing your firearm/loads capabilities!

The sheer fact that you listed th DOPE on your optic to make those shots impresses the hell out of me. Sir, you are quite the hunter and marksman. And again, your dog is beautiful.
