Well there goes a untapped market, hopefully someone's watching.
Would really like a more flat accurate shooting bullet.
I will be heading to the range and trying out the XTP's for the first time. Not to mention my first reloads ever
Don't worry about trajectory with subsonic bullets. Find a trajectory calculator and plug in b/c s for these bullets and a spitzer and they aren't too much different. After ~100yds they all drop quickly.
I probably read it 40-45 years ago so don't hold me to it, but it seems like the factory didn't recommend light loads with half-jacket bullets. IIRC it is possible to stick a jacket in the barrel.
So my HR arrived today and off I went to the gun range. I threw on a ACOG just so I can get some reasonable groups. Upper left hand group was 20ft all unsuppressed just to ensure no baffle strikes. Also should mention I was shooting off hand.
4.0gr trail boss
90 gr XTP
federal primers
mixed brass
1.670 COAL
The very first shot was just underneath the group. Why, maybe it was the fear in me since it was my very first reload and I flinched I honestly thought it was a squib because it didn't sound loud at all. After inspecting the barrel ALL IS GOOD
Upper right was all the same but upped the load to 4.2 grains
Water Jugs give dramatic expansion, wet pack gives some expansion as I have mentioned before. This is real world results at around 65 yards on game.
I find that a critter is somewhere between the two. Upon skinning the rabbit I found moderate expansion at best, but with a MV of around 1000, she had to be dropping low fps at that distance. Shot placement won the day and resulted in this.
You can't beat the mountain, pilgrim. Mountains got its own way.
I'll be using these on critters around here as well.
I chronied 4.0gr at 650fps
All from the muzzle
Next 4 shots suppressed were around 950fps! I know back pressure can cause speed increase but I had no idea it was this intense, anyone else witness this?
I know the H&R is a different animal but I had to set the 90gn out looong for my Encore. But once I found the sweet spot they are very accurate with TB.
