Thanks for the tip. I picked up thar manual today along with some 180g. bullets it has load data for. As soon as I get time I will load some up and report back on how they perform.tallburnedmidget wrote:Hornady 9th ed has Norma 200 loads for bullets 178gr - 190gr bullets.

Know there is an errata to fix some misprinted info for the 300BLK loads here http://www.hornady.com/assets/files/9thEdErrata.pdfGyrkin wrote:Thanks for the tip. Re: Norma 200 for BLK?
I loaded up some rounds for testing.
First the ones using the data from Norma:
150 gr Speer HCSP
17.0 gr Norma 200
CCI 41
COAL 1.98"
Functioned fine, and locked back on empty.
Norma claimed to be getting 1640 fps but that was with a 23" barrel. I got an average of 1510 fps with a 16" barrel, so seemed about right.
Now the ones using data from the Hornady 9th ed manual:
The Hornady manual listed a starting load of 14.7 gr. Norma 200 with a maximum load of 19.2 gr. for 180 gr. Hornady SST bullets. I loaded up some with 14.7 gr., but also wanted to load up some with progressively higher amounts to take to the field with me. The next amount I went with was 16.0 gr. but when I seated the bullet I could tell it was compressing the powder quite a bit. I double checked everything and tried another, same thing. I backed off the charge to 15.4 gr. and still there was a little compression. I tried the ones with 14.7 gr. and they fired fine. No signs of excessive pressure, but they chronographed at an average o 1542 fps. The Hornady manual listed 1300 fps with this load. I also tried the ones with 15.4 grains and they averaged 1557 fps. They showed a little flattening of the primers, but not too bad. I've never messed with compressed loads before and I'm reluctant to go any higher. The maximum load of 19.2 gr. would have to be very compressed. Heck, 19.2 grains of Norma 200 will barely fit in the case without a bullet. Has anyone out there ever loaded anything that compressed the powder that much, it doesn't seem right. I'm questioning Hornady's data since I'm getting compressed loads and am still at the lower end of the range.

Re: Norma 200 for BLK?
Well I made up a dummy round without a primer, filled it with water, did the math, and came up with a case capacity of 13.2 grains of Norma 200 with the 180 grain SST bullets. So if I was to load the maximum load listed in the Hornady manual it would be 145% density! So much for trusting published data.
I abandoned the 180 grain bullets and decided to see if I could make a subsonic load. After a little experimenting I found that 12.0 grains of Norma 200 behind 208 grain Hornady BTHP match bullets run right at 1000 fps. They cycle fine but no bolt hold open without a can. Probably would with a can, but can't say for sure, since I don't have one yet.
I did some experimenting with Norma 200 and 125 grain bullets as well, and wasn't very impressed. However I didn't fully explore the possibilities, because I scored two pounds of IMR 4227. The early tests I did with the Norma 200 yielded pretty pathetic velocities, like only 1400 fps.

A1680, Norma 200, & RL-7 are all about the same, There is plenty of data (on here alone for 1680 & RL-7 subs) Do you have any 220gr bullets to try working it down 11.0gr-10.3gr for a 220 sub @ 1,000fps ?

Re: Norma 200 for BLK?
Misquoting me? I said "all ABOUT the same."
220gr HPBT
A1680 - 10.3gr - 1033 FPS
RL-7 - 10.4gr - 976 FPS
RL-7 - 10.8gr - 1055 FPS
Norma & Vihatvouri normally snub their noses about load data requests for 7.62x39 or 300 Blackout.

Most every burn rate chart N200 is right behind 1680.

You have specifically been asked NOT to post reloading information. You have proven to have unsafe reloading practices and I will ask you to again refrain from posting information

? Wait, is that POWDERFORSALE saying that, or a moderator inserting over his message (dont know most of the first names here yet)...
"Of course I'm carrying a gun. It's where I keep my bullets".
