I only own one rifle. An 8" Noveske SBR in 300 BLK.

I bought enough factory loads and reloading components prior to all this current frenzy nonsense.

If I could find 300 ammo for less $$$$ or at all I would consider shooting the 300 more. So for now I'm sticking with my 5.56 and even more so my 22LR conversion for it.

I recently just stop shooting my 5.56 upper and mainly shoot my 300 blackout upper. I fell in love with caliber. Enough to sell for scar 17 off and just use all the 147 gr m80 pulled bullets and loaded them in 300 blackout. The scar was a great rifle but reloading for it was costly and reloading for the blackout is much cheaper than 7.62x51 and 5.56. I'm going to keep my upper in 5.56 and the AR I built for my son (when gets old enough to shoot).

I swapped my 5.56 barrel out for the 300 Blk and sold it. Never looked back. Now the wife has bought the S&W M&P15 version. For easy shooting deer hunting, it's the best. I own all the long-arm calibers I need for multitasking. These two 300 Blk ARs replace the two lever action 32 Spls I gave my boys. I considered the 5.56 a coyote gun and did NOT like the way it ricocheted and flew like a boomerang. I dug bullets out of gravel to confirm they bent in the middle. I like what the 220 gr looks like when I dig it out of the gravel bank. I reload and form the brass. I shoot supers and she shoots subs, because the recoil is even less. Anyone that shoots my 300 Blk wants one, and not the 5.56, because the noise, punch, accuracy and recoil are so much better.

I haven't dropped any 5.56, but I wouldn't build anything new under a 10" barrel for 5.56 while I have the Blackout option available. 6"-16" for 300 Blackout and 10"-28" for 5.56 (or .223) is how I'm looking at things.

Last summer when I was flush I bought two complete Noveske rouge hunters in 300 blackout and 5.56. In Jan. I sold the 5.56 as I was never shooting it. I do very little plinking or target shooting, only hunt with my rifles. I wasn't using the 5.56 so a down the road it went. Put it at auction starting $.99 and sold it for enough that I ended up with a $500 complete Noveske rifle. No regrets.

Got the bug for a 300 BLK when I first saw them - I build my own uppers so waited out the Barrel Length Wars - finally settled on a 10" Pistiol length Gas setup, 7" Free Float. That's why I joined this Forum.
Plus I'm just a big fan of the AR platform which includes 5.56 uppers in 16, 14.5, 10.5 and 7.5 inches - 7.62x29 in 16, 11 and 7.5 inch uppers - a 7.5 inch 9mm upper - a 410 shotgun upper - and just putting the finishing touches on the 10 inch 300 BLK upper (I have a couple Pistol and an SPR stamped lower as well as serval standard rifle lowers) I have a DPMS LR308 too. I have both Gas Impingment and Piston systems with no real preference so far. I have a CMG 22LR Kit for my 5.56 Pistol setup - it's just a fun plinker. I am partial to Nick-Boron BCGs for all the reasons they advertise - well worth the extra $$$ if you have a lot of guns to shoot and don't want to spend a week of evenings cleaning them.
If you have to die of something . . . .
. . . . it might as well be something you like.

Who cleans ARs? Just keep 'em oiled. :P

I myself see no need to drop such a wonderful cartridge. The .223 is great for a lot of things, including doing just about everything the 300 can do. I'm gonna keep both of my uppers.

I've become conflicted with this issue as well. While I like the .223 for long range precision, I like the thumping power of the 300blk. My 300blk carbine is my go-to rifle for bush hunting, and I replaced the barrel on my AR pistol with 300blk due to better performance in that form factor. Now the question is whether or not to keep my 5.56 carbine or consolidate that into some other goodies.
