I think he means is the 0.0306 ID measurement taken without the expander ball installed or after the expander ball has been passed thru the neck.

I just resized a fired case. I did not touch any balls.

Okay, the situation is checked by removing the expander ball from the sizer die and checking the ID of the neck prior to the expander ball being pulled back thru the case neck. The problem of over working the brass occurs when the neck is "under-sized" unnecessarily then "re-opened" by the expaner ball.

I don't have a set of .30 cal Lee dies of any type and no 300 BLK yet so I took these measurements from a set of RCBS .30-30 dies that I have gotten 7 or more reloading from my brass with as figures to use for comparison.

Fired case ID--- 0.300
Sized w/o expander--- 0.298
expander ball dia.--- 0.308
sized with expander--- 0.307

As you can see the entire process manipulates the brass less than .010". The Lee dies that I had problems with sized the brass down over .015" and then expanded it back to within .001" of the bullet diameter. The figures you mention would not be a problem.

Didn't mean to steal the thread.

I think you meant 0.001", but I agree. The expander ball only bring it back up 0.001" is ideal for jacketed bullets.

The expander ball also irons out any dings in the neck
thats why the brass/neck has to be worked both ways

first its swaged down to under-size , , now its round on the outside

BUT it can have dings that goes into the neck

Then when the expander ball is pulled through the neck , then every thing should be fine

its more important that the inner of the neck is perfect , than the outside
