I'm getting getting 1" and under at 100yrds. 21grs was almost identical. I'm not sure I can shoot much better than that with such a light gun and milspec trigger. It's really just for proof of concept because I'm just going to put a red dot on it after I'm done playing with the reload part. I know I don't need to say it but as with all internet advice, this is working for me but doesn't mean it's safe for everyone. I still haven't broken out the chronograph to test any of the loads I've tried.

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
FWIW, I recently tested A1680 with my 12.5" AAC upper (with Sandman-S) and measured 21grs. at 1918fps and 21.5grs. at 1968fps. COL is 2.180" with new Gemtech cases and Federal 205 primers. I have some H110 laying around, so I might give that a try. I'm going to hunt with the 21.5s this season, though. Accuracy was tolerable for short range, around 2 MOA.blaster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 9:16 am heres my latest chrono results for loads using the 150 gr; Gold Dot. all were shot out of a 16" bbl. Bear Creek upper with an Omega suppressor. the C.O.A.L. was 2.145 using Winchester small rifle primers. powders used were A-1680 and H-110. I loaded up 10 rounds of each. depending how the Magnetospeed chronograph felt, each shot string recorded from 10-5 shots. here are the shot string average velocities:
A-1680- 20grs. 1870fps, 20.5grs.1886fps, 21grs. 1913fps, 21.5grs. 1962fps.
H-110 - 17.7grs. 2008fps, 18grs, 2057fps, 18.3grs. 2056fps, 18.6grs. 2066fps.
all grouped within 3/4" at 25 yds (probably would be tighter if not for my poor shooting ) except the load with 21.5 grs. of A-1680. it opened up to about 2"! because I plan on hunting with these bullets, I wanted the highest velocity. H-110 gave that and I decided to stick with 18grs. for my load because the 18.3 & 18.6 loads had more felt recoil with not much velocity gain. they also started showing bolt marks on the brass.

Thanks man. That’s the same upper and can as I have. I’ve got A1680 Available to try too.spinal tap wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 3:50 pmFWIW, I recently tested A1680 with my 12.5" AAC upper (with Sandman-S) and measured 21grs. at 1918fps and 21.5grs. at 1968fps. I’m interested to see your H110 numbers as well as that’s how my 150s are loaded. I really need to buy a LabRadar and get to worn with it.
Lastly, where are you guys getting more 150s? I can’t find them anywhere.

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
You're welcome! I'll post again when I load H110. I'm low on Gold Dot bullets, so it may be awhile before I can restock.

That’s partly why I size the 123 GDs down to .309. I can’t find the 150s anywhere.spinal tap wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 1:55 pmYou're welcome! I'll post again when I load H110. I'm low on Gold Dot bullets, so it may be awhile before I can restock.

I love everything from LaRue. I'd take one if it was given, but I can shoot >MOA without it so what's the point? Killed 2 deer with it so far this year. IMO, changing an AR trigger is the absolute easiest way to improve accuracy.Roachclass wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 12:52 amI love everything from LaRue. Larue is a low cost extremely high quality option and it would probably tighten up your groups even more.
Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
Out of curiosity, has anyone tried these in a .308 gas gun? I'm working on a load for my 14.7 with them but was thinking that if I could develop a decent load with them for my 16" .308 gasser, it would lessen the burden of components to stock up on. It would be a shorter range defensive, obviously hunting too, load.
I guess I wonder if a bullet designed to expand at BLK velocities would work at higher velocities well. Especially since the RPM would be less I think in a 1:10 twist.
Anyone?

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
Speer has two 150gn "gold dots" in the market. One is for the 300BO and another for other .30 firearms.
Are they different? Yep, there are some notable differences between the 2. Will they interchange? I have no idea.
At full velocity, I use them as intended by Speer. I am not interested in being in a experiment!

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
Yes, I know there are two 150 gr GD and what the difference in BC and ogive. Just wondering if out to say 300, if the BLK 150 could handle 308 velocity. I was asking on a weekend but ill call Speer tomorrow and ask.
With components hard to come by, it would be nice to stock up when found on one bullet that can be used for two rifles.
