I'd be interested in what Speer has to say. My experience is that they will sometimes come apart at velocities around 2400fps. I expect they'd act more like a varmint bullet at .308 velocities.nolwark76 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 3:49 am Yes, I know there are two 150 gr GD and what the difference in BC and ogive. Just wondering if out to say 300, if the BLK 150 could handle 308 velocity. I was asking on a weekend but ill call Speer tomorrow and ask.
With components hard to come by, it would be nice to stock up when found on one bullet that can be used for two rifles.

Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
some of the best 300 Black Out hunting bullets (125 gr SST & TNT) were actually designed as varmint bullets for the big .308 calibers. at Black Out velocity they perform as a hunting bullet should. I imagine that it would be reversed and if you shot a Gold Dot designed for the 300 BLK at .308 Win. or .30/06 velocities, they would preform like a varmint bullet and explode. that is if they don't come apart in flight. they do look like a plated bullet to me.

On my 16” R700 the 150GDHP 300BLK was my most accurate supersonic load. Even more so than the 125TMK, 110 Vmax and 110 Tac-TX.
I just came back from the range setting up my new 12.5” 1:8 twist custom Bartlein barreled Defiance which is my R700 replacement and it’s still is the most accurate load. Only had 10 rounds on hand but they just made one big ragged hole at 100yards, even did better than my 308 Desert Tech with 175 TMK which is a sub 0.5 moa gun.
I think it’s a round that likes to be pushed hard with a slight compression of A1680. I ran them at 2.24” and 22.9gr of 1680 - this is a stout load, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you start at 22 and work your way up. I clocked them at 1975FPS out of that 12.5” barrel which is decent for anything under 175yards. Also as an added bonus it shoots the same poi/poa as my 190 SubX loads as opposed to the 110s who shoots 1mil high at 50yrs and 0.2 mil right.
That being said I really wasn’t impressed how it did on game last fall at 135 yards compared to my previous experiences with Barnes 110 TacTX and Lehigh 194s but it’s so much more accurate I’m tempted to try them again next fall. The Barnes 110 also shoots flatter obviously.

Been away from the page for a while. Anyone know what happened to this bullets availability?? Can’t find them anywhere.
Re: Speer Gold Dot 150 BLK
Got a box of them left, shot some with H110, didn't think accuracy was that great ~ 1900 fps from 1:10 carbine. Haven't tested on animals yet.

I think they’re gone forever at this point. I have less than a box left, myself. I don’t think they’re magical by any means, but I do like them. I’ve killed at least 2 deer with them with good results. I’ve had longer blood trails with the Barnes than these, but there are variables involved, so who knows if that means anything. All deer were recovered and made good table fare. I say try them if you find them, but don’t worry about it if you don’t.
