I have been researching the subject of a 300 Blackout Ak rifle(16-1/2" barrel). I know this his been done in 300Blk & .556 using Ak74 parts.
What would be a good starting point for a gas port & size to cycle cast 200gr+ subsonics?
I know this is normally an Ar15 forum but figure there is enough knowledge to figure this out.

Might have better luck going to ARFcom and look in the Variant section.

Pretty sure that a normal AK gas port diameter is ~ .128.
My blackout gas port on my 8.5" 300 blk barrel is .125".
I have serious doubts that some of my sub loads would cycle an AK due to the piston and how AK's work in general.

When those totally ignorant of firearms make laws, you end up with totally ignorant firearm laws.

Review this article, it has been done. Surely someone here has done something similiar.

Largely for the purposes of education, why would someone not simply load 7.62x39 heavy subsonics? Is it a bullet availability issue?

Silvers built one and did a thread on silencertalk back before he started this forum. It's probably still archived there.

My VZ58 has a 0.109" gas port and will cycle 180gr subs and achieve BHO w/o a can.
My 16" Arsenal will cycle them as well but I haven't measured the port size
My WASR had a 0.147" port but I never tested the subs before I chopped it up
Hope this helps you out

Compared my 180gr sub data for 300 & x39 and both are running nearly equal charges of the same powder
