You may get a little more FPS with Lil' gun. It is a little faster per Hornady 9th addition.
Good luck!

Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
Thanks for the info guys, i had considered running lilgun but i read that it was heating up barrels real bad. Have you noticed that at all? So far H110 and W296 dont seem to heat my barrel up very bad at all.
Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
i just found these two posts on this forum:
Well finally got to test my first workups (and get to shoot my AR for the first time). Starting with Nosler BT 125gr and H110. I worked up from 17gr. This was my best group using a Bushnell Trophy red dot with a 5x magnifier at 100 yards. I think after my hog hunt, I am going to get a sled and mount a nice long range scope on it to test my loads with to eliminate user error. Since I am far from a sharpshooter, I use the best 3 of 5 shots when testing loads.
16" AAC Upper
125 gr Nosler Green Ballistic Tip
GM205M Match Primers
19.9 gr H110
2.145 OAL
The guy shooting 300 Win Mag with muzzlebrake on one side and rapid fire AK on the other messed up my Chrony reading on this load, but it is knocking right around 2300 fps. I went up to 20.1 and it started showing signs of pressure.
I knew i saw some loads like this on this forum in the past, thats why i came here. I tried the google search way first of course but couldnt find them again so i posted my own question hoping these same guys would respond. Anyway, looks like its possible but i'll have to load longer than the 2.100" that i loaded the last ones.My loads for the 125 TNT are showing a little pressure at 20 gr, 20.5 is hot. I settled in at 19.5 gr of Win 296, but may go back to 19.8 as the final.
I need to test more on some soft targets, but was not quite as impressed as I thought I would be my first time out.
125 gr Speer TNT 20 gr W296
Average= 2276 ES = 75
20.5 gr was average 2324 fps es = 34 passable but hot, OK in bolt gun, may be to hot for AR.
Have not run 19.5 numbers yet.

"i read that it was heating up barrels real bad."
I have heard that as well. During long strings of shooting, My barrel does get pretty warm. Generally, I do not just blow through the ammo (if I could just get my daughter to do the same!). As long as I keep it at a low round count, it is fine. My 16" SOTA likes the Hornady 9th edition's max recipe of 20 grns. @ 2.10 OAL for the 125 SST's. I have not chrono'd it yet, as accuracy is much more important to me. I hope to take a mule deer with it this year.

Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
I've gotten much better velocity with H110 than LIL gun with 125gr SST. It seems lil gun acts funny when getting near 100% capacity. I couldn't even get 2200fps with lil gun at col 2.15"
16" btw
16" btw
Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
I have taken several deer with the 125 SST,I too have a Wilson Combat 16" barrel.I mostly have used W296 @ 19.0grs.,which is over max. according to the Hornady manual (W296=17.5,H110=18..I have never had pressure signs and have reloaded the brass almost forever.Velocity in that rig is 2,155fps on avg.I don't think the deer can tell.As long as the velocity is 1,700fps or more Hornady say's the 125SST will expand reliably. That's somewhere around 180yds for my rig and I have taken deer at 125yds with good sucess. If I had a hunting range where I knew I would shoot 200yds and farther I would use my 6.5Grendel,308,300win.mag.270,etc.I have shot alot out to 300 yards on my shooting range with the 300BLK,it does pretty well, once you know the hold, and I would take a coyote there with it.The right gun for the job and the 300BLK cover's 95% of mine, economically.
Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
I have also used lil'gun @ 20.0 grs.which is max.in the Hornady manual. It did fine, did'nt notice any extra barrel heat.Just seems like W296 was a bit more consistent.Barrel heat in a 300BLK seems like wearing tire's out in a pinto, but then I'm use to barrel wear in 6.5-284.
Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
I have a Palmetto State 16" chrome lined 300 barrel and I have experimented with the 125 SSTs and H110 with a chrono. My goal was balancing accuracy and velocity. For my barrel/rifle I have found 18.8grs H110 with the bullet seated to approx. the middle of the cannelure gives me decent accuracy and velocity of approx. 2225. My cases are trimmed to 1.362 (+/- .003) and I use Wolf Small Rifle magnum primers.
Using a ballistics calculator shows this load is just above 1700 fps at 200 yds.

Very good info guys, thank you.
Re: H110/W296 with 125 gr sst's..
That is so weird because Im getting more velocity out of my 10.5 inch barrel using same powder charge..... I wonder why?!Jafarko wrote: ↑Fri Jul 04, 2014 12:08 pm I have a Palmetto State 16" chrome lined 300 barrel and I have experimented with the 125 SSTs and H110 with a chrono.
