Rem 700 chassis with mags.

Post by 45r »

Anyone have a Remington 700 with a chassis using the mdt .223 mag.
Does it feed well.
Thinking about getting the oryx chassis.

I can't recall having any feeding issues with my .223 MDT mags using the magpul chassis and bottom metal, taken at least 80+ shots at the range since getting rid of the factory stock. My disclaimer being that I've been working on supers 110-125gr hunting loads, haven't used longer bullets in a long time. Only minor annoyance I have is that because the case neck is so far back compared to a .223 that loading the mag, the case rim of the top round occasionally gets hung up on the neck of the previous one.

My current setup is MDT HS3 chassis with MDT poly magazines. I’d say it feeds proper 95% of the time. I want to try the Accurate 5rnds mag and play with them and see if I can run them 100%. Also have a manners ultra classic with Hawkins DBM on the way, curious to see how it’ll compare to the chassis.

I got my oryx chassis today.
Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but is feeding my widenose cast bullets from a mdt 223 mag.
I've been pushing the top round out to the front when loading the mag so the next round doesn't hang up on the neck lip.
The chassis looks good and is much better with a bipod.

Rem 700 chassis with mags

I just called legacy and was told no mags until end of May or the beginning of June. Does anyone have a source for the howa mags? I hate having only 1 mag

The oryx chassis has helped the accuracy with hornady 208 A-maxs.
Shoots them under half inch at 60 yards.
10 shot cast boolits are going around inch and a half with most going around half inch.
A few pull to the the right for some reason.

Did some shooting at 100 yards with 240 grain cast boolits.
Best seven shot group went 1.25 " Using viht n-120.
Next best went 1.4 " using viht n-105 and real quiet.
This was off a rest instead of bipod.
Still haven't seen 1" yet but getting closer.
Like the mag fed chassis system much more than the regular stock.
I forgot to shoot the 208 A-max load but pretty sure it will do 1"or a little better.

Buy the Accurate Mags 223 magazines, they feed 100% in my gun. The MDT would not even lock in.
