OK here is my understanding which doesn't mean much. STONER brand is the name that midway slaps on their house brand to sale. Most lowers are manufactured by only a few companies. Iv used quite a few stoner barrels for different builds without any problems and are good shooter. Iv never used their lowers but I wouldn't hesitate on a stoner lower, I just don't mess with 80% lowers.crs gns n thngs wrote:Old thread but AR Stoner related.
Do you guys have any experience or comments on quality of their 80% forged lower,
good price but can just be a paper weight. Thx.

Well... I believe satern bought liberty out which makes or made barrels. Liberty barrels are button rifled then chambered by satern is what I understand. These barrels are then sold to who ever as their house brands. (Midways stoner brand). Nothing wrong with them, their good shooters. Saterns true barrels are rifle cut and hand lapped, not production barrels per say. And are usually twice the price of house brand barrels. Again nothing wrong with the liberty barrels, they shoot great, but arnt cut rifled and hand lapped. I actually have one of each in the Grendel and both shoot great.Jim Timber wrote:The Brownells house brand 458 socom barrel I got is made by Satern, and it's a great shooter.farm use wrote:I understand how things are made and packaged and sold. But im still not convinced Satern makes stoner barrels. I hope they are though! Satern barrels are great shooters for sure, if I can buy a stoner made by satern for half the money im there! I paid $580 I believe for my 18" grendel barrel from satern a few years ago, it shoots awesome, but if I can buy a satern barrel that says stoner on it for $279 that shoots the same, YES PLEASE! I built a good friend a grendel last year using a 16" stoner barrel, it does shoot well, but the bore isnt as smooth as my satern, so im not sure.

I don't like AR stoner bolts.
Not sure who makes them, but they're soft. After about 2k rounds, the edges rounded off considerably more than a colt with even more rounds put through it.
No, I don't have photos, and I don't have the gun anymore, but you can take my word for it or not.

When those totally ignorant of firearms make laws, you end up with totally ignorant firearm laws.

Midway has a 300 16" upper I have been looking for a pretty good price. Their barrels seem to get good reviews from what I've seen.

I have one of these. It shoots great. I am pretty sure this is why. A while back I was trying to find out who made it and was perplexed at the weird thread choice on the muzzle end. 9/16. The only other company I found at that time that offered the same barrel, same profile with the same thread pattern was Shilen. A volume Midway contract for 1000 barrels at price X would be pretty lucrative to anyone. That being said I couldn't find in even listed at Shilen now.
