Sucker for a nice piece of walnut

Was checking out the used rack at gander mtn (99% crap) recently when I spotted this 1950 Rem 722 in 300 savage for $200.
Bore looked like it had never been cleaned in 60+ years. Pitted badly but otherwise the rifle was in very nice condition.
Wound up getting it for $170. Figured if it didn't group I would sent it off to Hart to true the action and fit a new barrel.
Wore out a brush cleaning it....bore looked worse after cleaning....this isn't good. Tomato stake for sure.

Had 300 brass, 4064 powder and 125 tnt's so I loaded up 43grs. Bore sighted it at 100yds and let her rip. Wow it hit paper.
Adj scope.....fired three more Adj scope fire three more . Can't believe this turd shoots. It's earned a place come opening day.

Thanks....it stuck out like a sore thumb in a pile h&r shotguns, cheap 22's ect... Pics from my crappy tablet don't do it justice.

It will be rebarrled some time down the road......its too nice not to. Thankful I can use it as is with deer season right around the corner.

Yep....I'm sure you have had more than a few come through your shop.

The only downside are the extractors are no longer made.....I'd just get a m16/Sako conversion if it ever broke.

Kind of funny how oversize bolt handles are the rage nowadays. Standard issue back then....lol

That's beautiful, nice score. The 721/722 is my favorite bolt action. Replacement extractors haven't been available from Remington for about 3 decades, but NOS ones show up on Gunbroker occasionally. I traded for a clapped out 721 in .30-06 a few years ago that I am eventually going to have rebarreled in .35 Whelen.

This 721 started life as a 300 H&H that some dude rebarreled as a 7mm Weatherby Magnum. My dad traded a chainsaw for it.
