I'm thinking about sending this barrel to adco and having the port welded shut. Really didn't want to do that but I think that will be the cleanest set up.

I have tapped the port and then use a setscrew. That was with a 22 though.

Also, welding over a port is pretty simple for most welding shops. I had a shop weld over a pin and weld a flash hider to the barrel. They charged me $20.

Drill and tap is a viable solution, the barrel would still be usable with a AR gas system very easily.

Barrels off to Adco for welding the gas port shut. They told me they drill and tap it then weld it closed.

Earlier this week I got the jp trigger installed. Setting up the trigger was super easy. Fitting the disconnector and safety was tedious and time consuming. I'm going to build a rifle for a buddy and he's using the same trigger so it was good to get some experience with it prior to fitting his.

If all goes well, I should have it back before thanksgiving and will get to fire the first shot out of it then, lol.

Great trigger, it is all I use now, of course that is after playing and fiddling with the factory trigger on a new rifle and not being fully pleased and finally deciding to order the JP trigger, it is just a matter of time,,,,LOL

Txr, what torque did you use for the barrel nut? I'm having an issue getting it torqued between 30-60ft/lbs so I can get this poc handguard to work. It lines up at 20ft/lb or it looks like it going to take 80-90ft/lb too get it lined up. :/

I'm really starting to feel like I should have stuck with my first gut feeling and steered clear of this freaking rifle, it's become a serious money pit.

I took it to 60 ft pounds and ground down the tit that is in the way of the pump rod, the handguard still mounted up fine. You can also try a different barrel nut. I just built a new AR in 30 Herrett AR and used a Troy alpha handguard, I tried three different barrel nuts and finally just ground down the tit after going to 65 foot pounds and the handguard still fits fine and is nice and secure.

If I could replace this handguard, I would in an instant. This design really sux.

I've tried everything from 30 - 60ft/lb and the stupid handguard will pull straight off. It also leaves a huge gap between it (and won't tighten down) and the receiver, looks bad. As you can tell, I'm very frustrated. Never had so much issue setting up a barrel in an upper...

I'd get a couple barrel nuts from different manufacturers and try them to see if you can get a better alignment without a gazillion foot pounds of torque.
