I've got one of exactly what you're talking about. The reamer was designed by a guy on another site and I got my barrel from him. He calls his version ".308r2" and he asked that when ever I talked about it that I would call it by his cartridge name. Another version was built by the same guy that designed the 7.62x40WT. He calls his the 7.62 ARK if I remember correctly. The ".308r2" can be loaded with 300blk dies but had the body lengthened to optimize 150gr FMJ bullets supersonic at a mag length of 2.25". I tried a 125gr nolser BT for size in the case a couple weeks ago and it looked like it would work very well also. If you do some Google searches for ".308r2" and "7.62 ARK" you should come up with some good info to help you in the right direction.

If you want I can send you the print number I have for the .308r2 from PTG and you can have them send you a copy to see if it is what you were thinking.

@advntrjnky; thanks for the heads up on those other cartridges. While searching for those I came across something called 7.62x39USA which is .223 parent cased. PTG is supposed to have the print sheet for that too. Probably get them to send me several to compare with what I have.

Primary goal is using any .223 case without neck turning and having plenty of clearance (not the minimum)
Secondary goal would be keeping the 300blk shoulder to fire factory blackout ammo.

 Deep Throat was the mole in Watergate. Having read Liddy's "Will", I'm not much of a Nixon fan.

My first name is really Jim.

That traitor Nixon did three horrible things. Folded to OPEC instead of bombing them into the stone age. Schmoozed with the Pearl Harbor crowd. Then he did the worst possible on his last day in office. Signed into law 55mph costing me lots of money for fuel as the cars at that time did not get good mileage at that speed. And put into place CAFE. Of course the last two were to allow the anemic crap cars from the orient to compete with real American metal. The auto industry has been all downhill since then. It was already headed downhill because of useless EPA regulations.

I've been kicking around a very similar idea. My thought was that subsonic velocity and cast lead bullets go hand-in-hand, and that it would be a shame to send expensive jacketed bullets downrange when lead would do as well. A nice long neck would cover the grease grooves nicely.

Since my main platform is Kalashnikov, all I'd need would be an AK-74 flat and a .223 magazine. And I had several brand-new barrel blanks. I thought I'd just bump the bullet size from .308 to .311 and use the same molds I use for my 54R and Arisaka, but all the blanks are 1:9.5 twist, which is a bit slow for a heavy bullet. So I'm looking at either going with a lighter bullet or buying a faster twist barrel, which would have to be a .308, since it would be a full-custom job to get a fast twist .311 barrel, and out of my price range. While I was thinking about it some unwelcome expenditures sucked up my discretionary gun money for a while, and I haven't got back to it.

FYI, if you think you might shoot cast lead in the future, you might have your reamer maker duplicate the SMLE .303 British leade instead of the normal chamfer into the rifling. The SMLE used a multiple-angle chamfer, sort of like a three-angle valve seat, to gently engrave the rifling into the bullet instead of just slamming it into a bevel. The .303 is known to be particularly friendly to cast bullets. The SAAMI chamber drawings, online at the SAAMI web site, show the configuration if you're interested.
