I'm about to complete my 300 blk build and I will soon be sighting it in. I love my acu-sight bore sighter, but I doubt I have the propper diode.
Since they don't make one expressly for 300blk, does anyone have any idea what diode would work?

This is an uneducated response, but since the 556 is the parent cartridge, wouldn't a 556 laser bore sight work?

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't think it would be too far off if any.

The 5,56 X 45 (.223) has a longer body than the 7.62 X 35 (300 BO).bzdog wrote:This is an uneducated response, but since the 556 is the parent cartridge, wouldn't a 556 laser bore sight work?

I always just break open the upper, remove the bolt and sight through the barrel with the gun supported by block or vice. I then align the sight with the bore.
I was taught this in 1965 or so. It has always brought the rifle enough on target for proper sighting in. Of course, it doesn't cost anything so may not be the best solution.

Has anyone tried using a 5.56 bore sighter? I have one and was thinking about using it in the 300 blk when it comes. I guess as long as I don't let the bolt slam home and jam it in it's worth a try.

Re: 300 Blk bore sight laser diode
it may work but it wont fit right in the chamber, the .223 case is thicker where the neck of the 300blk is so it wont go in all the way. i tried to chamber a piece of .223 brass and the bolt wouldn't close and it dented the case about where the neck would start on the 300blk.

I think this will be my backup plan. Certainly worth a try before I go out and buy one of the ones that stick out of the barrel. I used my .223 laser, it worked fine. You just have to make sure you gently bring the bolt forward. I don't know what would happen if you just let it fly, but I don't think it would be good.R

Perhaps if you slowly ride the bolt forward but as previously stated, the .223 cartridge will not fit in the 300 blk. The neck will jam in and have some serious issues with either laser sight or upper itself. Dont ask how I know
