16 inch 300 blackout rifle. scope?

Post by dizle »

so i have my 16 inch 300 blackout ar rifle and i love it already (only shot 100 rounds thru it). and im looking at scope options, i have red dots on my 5.56 ar's and they are great for plinking at the range.

i plan to use my 300blk for hunting and range time and possibly in 3 gun matches. with that being said, i have a quad rail on my rifle with a 45 degree offset rail for a micro red dot, what scope should i go with ? ( on a budget)
the animals ill be hunting will be deer. and possibly coyotes or other small game.

i plan to shoot subs and supersonic ammo, so im lookin for a decent scope to shoot in range of 100-300yards with supersonic ammo, and up to 100 yards with subsonic.

any info would be appreciated. thanks

I like the nikon scopes with the BDC reticle. I sighted mine in for 100 yards with my supersonic hunting loads and use the drop reticles for my subsonic loads and longer distances with supers. It also has online software for free that you can use to show your bullet drop.

I'm trying one of the new Weaver Kaspa 1.5x6 scopes on my rifle and so far I'm impressed. Illuminated reticle with ranging stadia, 30mm tube and finger-adjustable turrets that snap lock to prevent accidental movement for under $200. Kinda hard to find but they're out there.

For 3 gun, hunting, and on a budget look at the vortex pst 1-4 or the millet DMS-1. Neither are fully day time bright like a red dot but are great scopes. I have a DMS-1 on my 16" 300 BLK and really like it. Thinking of getting a Trijicon Accupoint TR24G 1-4 scope soon.

I'm looking at the Leatherwood CMR after using one a few weeks ago. It worked well up close and at 4x magnification. Nice and clear. You can still see the reticle even with it turned off. It wasn't super bright in daylight, but was usable where I was.

Comes in red or green. I was using a red one.

Although both of these cost far north of "cheap" they are what I keep trying to decide between.

I have a Nikon p223 its a pretty good scope for the price and with nikons spot on app it's easy to calculate drop on the reticle per what power you have it set on. I paid 200 at academy sports for it. Has the Nikon 600 bed reticle.

Give the Weaver 1-3X a look. Priced around $150, decent optics, and very close to a true 1x at relatively short range. For me it probably wouldn't be enough magnification for 300 yards, but it serves my old eyes fine for 100. It's the scope I currenlty have on my blackout.

I put the Leupold Mark AR 3-9x mil dot on mine (may be a tad over "budget") with the plan to mount a micro red dot at 45deg as you mentioned. I'll be taking it deer hunting this year and I think it will be plenty for those 100-200yd shots. Looked great at 100.
